A principle is a natural law like gravity (if your drop
something, gravity controls), it is objective. Principles are
permanent, unchanging, and universal. Values are social
norms- they’re personal, emotional, subjective. They are
beliefs and opinions.

Learners will be asked to make a concept map showing the persons
they turn to in times of troubles and uncertainties and present it to
the class.
Learners will write their principles in life. All paper will be
collected and the teacher will pick at least three to discuss
their principles in class.

behavioural, psychological, emotional, spiritual,
occupational and even health aspect of an individual.
However, it does not deal with the clinical cases such as
mental illness.

Situational Analysis:
Learners will answer the situations to be presented by the facilitator
and identify if counseling is applicable in each situation. Write Yes
to Counseling if applicable and N/A if not applicable.

Dyad Activity: Be My Counselor
1. Learners will be asked to group themselves into
three.
2. Through a role- playing, demonstrate how the
counseling principles can be exhibited in a
counseling session.
3. Assign which one of you will act as a counselor, a
counselee and an observer.
4. In five minutes, the counselee thinks of a life
issue to bring up with the counselor and the
counselor applies the values and principles of
counseling.
Teacher will observe the whole class and after 15 minutes,
volunteers will be asked about their observations and their
experiences as a counselor and a counselee/client.
Processing Questions:
1. How did it feel in the different roles? Which were
the most challenging/easiest?
2. When you were the counsellor, how did you
communicate to the client that you were
listening?
3. When you played the role of the client, did you
feel heard? Did you feel like the counsellor
understood your experience? What made you
feel heard?

feedback?

Role Play (Dyad):
Learners will be asked to find a partner and try to do the situation
below. One will act as a counselor and the other will act as a client.
If you have a friend who’s thinking of dropping or cutting classes

Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse
individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health,
wellness, education, and career goals. The primary goal of
counseling is to help people utilize their prevailing social skills and
problem solving skills more functionally, or to cultivate new
surviving and coping skills.
