HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:
THE STRAND SAYS IT ALL

•This strand focuses in improving your communication
skills like for those learners who aim to take up socialsciences related courses in college. In order for them to
establish effective communication with people when they
are working half of the subjects involved in this strand form
on Language and Speech.
Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems
•Which brings the students into an encounter
with eight of the world’s religious traditions:
Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam,
Judaism, Confucianism, Shinto, and Daoism.
Religion is one among a significant variety of
ways through which human beings seek
fulfillment as well as answers to the their
ultimate questions.
Disciplines and Ideas in Social Sciences
•Introduces to the students the basic concepts
subjects, and methods of inquiry in the
disciplines of the social science. It discusses
also the influential thinkers and ideas in these
disciplines and relates to the Philippine Setting
and current global trends. We have learned here
the different discipline of social sciences which
are the anthropology, economics, geography,
history, linguistics, political science, psychology,
sociology and demography.
Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences
•Introduces grade 12 students to the
disciplines and ideas that form part of applied
social sciences. The coverage of this centers
in counseling, social work, and
communication, which are seemingly
threaded together. In this subject we had
experience an outreach program that we will
never missed.
Creative Writing
•Recognizes the essential role about
literary arts in the life of our culture
and the importance of writing
creatively in helping students to
develop their own powers of
expression, empathy and critical
reading and thinking. Building a
community of writers, scholars, and
critics.
Creative Nonfiction
• Aimed at helping learners to understand
creative nonfiction as a genre like types and
elements. Here we had read, critique sample
texts and lastly we independently wrote our
own literary pieces.
Philippine Politics and Governance
•Introduces not only to the workings of the
Philippine governmental system and the
various processes and means by which
citizens can participate and get represented
in politics and governance. We the students
in this subject are prone to debate activity.
Sharing our perspectives and views about
the different issues that our country is
currently facing right now. We were
challenge also to memorize and understand
the content of the 1987 Philippine
Constitution.
Megatrends and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century Culture
•It provides opportunities for students to
discover patterns and extract meanings
from the emerging trends. It helps develops
one’s critical and creative thinking skills
which is essential tools for making
decisions and understanding “ethics of
care.” In this subject we will learn to
differentiate the difference between a trend
and a fads. Gives us more knowledge and
new information about the 21st century
skills and culture.
Community Engagement, Solidarity, and Citizenship
•It focuses on the application of ideas and
methods of the social sciences to understand,
investigate and examine the challenges of
contemporary community life. We will use
those applied social sciences that we have
learned which are the social work, counseling
and communication. In this subject also we are
tasked to make a fund raising and project
proposal. This helps us to enhance our sense
of shared identity and willingness to contribute
to the pursuit of the common good of the
community.
HUMSS strand is designed to fully equipped learners’
writing, creative, critical thinking skills, and most
especially communication skills. If you want to be a
teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a social worker, a
writer, or a reporter someday then go for it.
So what are you waiting for? Are you ready to become
a HUMANISTA? Are you ready to feel the true essence
