A. Integers
• Integers is a special set of numbers comprising zero,
positive numbers and negative numbers.
• The integers are represented by the symbol “Z”
Example:
𝑍 = … , −7, −6, −5, −4, −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, …
B. Integer Number Line
“The number on the
right are more than
number on the left”
C. Relationship of number concisely
and precisely
Some notation that used to represent the relationship of number:
• > represent ‘more than’ (or ‘greater than’)
• < represent ‘less than’ (or ‘smaller than’)
• ≥ represent ‘more than or equal to’
• ≤ represent ‘less than or equal to’

D. Addition of Integers
There are two types of addition of Integers:
1. Addition two negative integers
Example:
−2 + −5 = − 2 + 5 = −7
2. Addition of a positive and a negative integer
Example:
8 + −6 = 8 − 6 = 2

Different sign: Greater absolute
value – the smaller & use the sign
of the greater absolute value
Same sign: add the absolute values

E. Substraction of Integers
The Clue is “ADD THE
OPPOSITE”
There are three types of addition of Integers
1. Substraction between two positive integers
Example:
2 − 5 = − 5 − 2 = −3
2. Substraction of a positive integer from a negative integer
Example:
−5 − 2 = − 5 + 2 = −7
E. Substraction of Integers

5 − −2 = 5 + 2 = 7
