skeletal and muscular movements, the spinal cord, and the appendicular peripheral nerves and blood vessels.
LEARNER’S OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course the learner will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to:
1. Understand anatomical terminology and language.
2. Identify the bones, joints, bony landmarks and understand the role of major bones and joints of the
appendicular and axial skeleton.
3. Identify the muscles and understand the major muscle groups in facilitating specific movements in the
appendicular and axial skeleton.
4. Understand the spinal cord and select peripheral nerves, including muscle innervations.
5. Identify the major blood vessels of the appendicular and axial skeleton.

Online Quizzes (30% - 3% EACH)
Online quizzes will be delivered weekly through the KINE 1P98 Sakai course page ‘Tests & Quizzes’ tab.
Over the course of the term, there will be a total of ten online quizzes which will be available from Monday
(12:00 AM) – Saturday (11:00 PM) each week (Table 1). All quizzes will include content from the week’s
laboratory and lecture content. Each quiz will consist of 20 randomized multiple choice, labelling, or ‘bell-ringer’
questions, and you will have 20 minutes to complete each quiz. It is very important to stay up to date with your
studying to perform well on these quizzes. Once you complete the quiz you will not be able to view it until after
the date that it is due, at which point you may review your answers online. Please ensure that you have a reliable
internet connection when taking the quizzes. Missed quizzes will result in a 0% for that quiz. Late quizzes will not
be accepted. If a valid reason, as deemed by the professor, is provided, a solution will be agreed upon on a caseby-case basis. Quizzes are to be taken independently.
Midterm Exams (30% - 15% EACH)
There will be two midterm exams completed in lecture, each will be 60 minutes in duration and will consist of
multiple choice and true-false questions. The first exam will be written in lecture on October 21, 2021 and will
assess material from lectures and labs through week 5. The second exam will be written in lecture on November
11, 2021 and will assess material from lecture and labs through week 9. Each exam will consist of 50 questions.
Question formats will include a mix of true/false, multiple choice, and diagram labelling.
Laboratory Exam (20%):
This is a practical, ‘bell-ringer’ style laboratory exam which will take place during each student’s last regularly
scheduled week of labs (November 29, 2021 – December 3, 2021) in the dry laboratory (WC 240A). Students will
be required to identify various anatomical structures (muscle, bone, ligament, tendon, nerve, artery/vein, joints,
etc.) and joint/muscle/tendon/ligament actions, innervations, blood supply, and origins/insertions. This exam
will include 21 stations (20 test stations and one rest station). Students will have 2 minutes per station. There
will likely be no opportunity to make up this exam. If the exam is missed with a valid medical certificate, the
percentage for the laboratory exam will be redistributed to the final examination. If you require accommodations
for this exam, please speak to the professor as soon as possible.
Final Exam (20%)
The final exam will be written between December 9 and December 22, 2021, as scheduled by the Registrar’s
Office. The exam will assess material from all lectures and lab modules over the entire semester. The exam will
be 2 hours in duration and may consist of multiple choice, labelling and/or true-false formats.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
Technical Requirements: Students require a stable, high-speed internet connection to access course content and
complete assessments. Access to web-enabled devices (such as either a desktop, laptop, or iOS/android device)
are needed to view lecture and lab content.
Late Submission Policy: The penalty for a late submission of assigned coursework is a 0% for any assessment,
unless accompanied by medical documentation (below). No late assignments will be accepted unless other
arrangements have been made. Substitute or additional work for extra credit is not available.
Medical Exemption Policy: Students must provide appropriate and adequate documentation if they are unable to
complete a scheduled assessment. In the event of an illness, students must submit a hard copy of the Brock
University Medical Certificate Form (http://www.brocku.ca/webfm_send/18172). This document will be
accepted in advance of any course assessment as well as within three working days following the assessment due
date. Only this medical certificate will be accepted as a document for a medical reason deferral. All medical
exemptions will be processed through the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Office. Please contact SAS directly
(asksas@brocku.ca) to arrange accommodations in advance of any course assessment.
Testable Content: Structured lecture and laboratory modules are available on the online Sakai course page to
facilitate course instruction. Students will be examined on all material in the lecture and laboratory modules that
may not appear on the online handouts. Please make sure to make use of all the resources provided.
Rounding of Marks Statement: All students will be treated equally and evaluated based on their actual
achievement. Final grades, irrespective of the number of decimal places used in marking individual assignments
and tests, will be calculated to one decimal place, and rounded to the nearest integer. Marks will not be bumped
up to the next grade or GPA. The mark attained is the mark you achieved, and the mark assigned; requests for
“bumping” will be declined.
Invitation to Participate in Research Projects: Students in this course may be invited to participate in education
research projects conducted by undergraduate thesis students and graduate students in the Faculty of Applied
Health Sciences. Your participation is greatly appreciated by these students however, it is entirely voluntary.
Non-participation in these studies will not have a negative impact on your standing in this course. Students should
be assured that any research projects involving this course have been approved by Brock’s Office of Research
Ethics.
Brock University Mask Policies: Instructor and students are required to wear a face covering while in teaching
spaces. Individuals may briefly adjust the mask to take a drink of water but masks must be replaced immediately
afterwards
Brock University Vaccine Mandate: All students, faculty, staff, and visitors who wish to access campus are
required to have their COVID-19 vaccination. Members of the Brock community can learn more about how to book
a COVID vaccine here. Brock students can also register to receive their vaccine on campus through Student Health
Services by completing this form. Students must upload proof of vaccination using the Brock Vaccination Tool.
Equitable Approach to Teaching During COVID-19 Pandemic: Course material will be available through inperson and online formats. All exams are scheduled in an in-person format. If in-person is no longer viable, all
course content will switch into an online format. Assessment availability and relative course weighting will
remain the same.

ACADEMIC POLICIES
Academic Integrity:
Academic misconduct is a serious offence. The principle of academic integrity, particularly of doing one’s own
work, documenting properly (including use of quotation marks, appropriate paraphrasing and
referencing/citation), collaborating appropriately, and avoiding misrepresentation, is a core principle in
university study. Students should consult Section VII, “Academic Misconduct”, in the “Academic Regulations and
University Policies” entry in the Undergraduate Calendar, available at http://brocku.ca/webcal to view a fuller
description of prohibited actions, and the procedures and penalties.
Intellectual Property Notice:

course are the intellectual property of the instructor. A student who publicly posts or sells an instructor’s work,
without the instructor’s express consent, may be charged with misconduct under Brock’s Academic Integrity
Policy and/or Code of Conduct, and may also face adverse legal consequences for infringement of intellectual
property rights.

b) If you require academic accommodation because of an incapacitating medical condition, you must, as
soon as practicable, inform your instructor(s) of your inability to complete your academic work. You must
also submit a Brock University Student Medical Certificate (found at
https://brocku.ca/registrar/toolkit/forms). The University may, at its discretion, request more detailed
documentation in certain cases. If you are unable to write a scheduled examination due to an
incapacitating medical condition, you must follow the process set out in the Faculty Handbook III:9.4.1.
c) If you are experiencing mental health concerns, contact the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre.
