The Teaching Profession






If I cling to the progressivist philosophy of education, I will make students learn by
doing; less teacher talk, more student talk.
I am a progressivist, For teaching in the affective domain, I will engage my
classes in value clarification.
Perennilalist teachers see the wisdom of all ancient and medieval times.
Essentialist teacher DO NOT give up teaching the basics in the students are not
interested.
Reconstructionist aim to teach students to reconstruct the society.
The model citizen of the reconstructionist is the citizen who contributes to the rebuilding of society.
Perennialism is heavy on the humanities.
Behaviorist teachers believe that students are product of their environment.
Student’s interests and needs are considered in a progressivist curriculum.
Progressivist curriculum DO NOT focus on facts and concepts.
Progressivist teachers strive to stimulate in the classroom the life on the outside
world.
Perennialist teachers DO NOT sacrifice subject matter for the sake of student’s
interest.
Course of study is NOT imposed on students in the existentialist classroom.
Behaviorist teachers believe they have control over some variables that affect
learning.
The existentialists’ main concern is to help students understand and appreciate
themselves as unique individuals who accept completely responsibility of their
thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Perennialist classrooms are teacher-centered.
To teach well is the primary demand of the society from a teacher.
According to research, the teacher is the most important factor in the students’
learning.
The term vocation comes from the Latin word “vocare” which means to call.
The term mission comes form the Latin word “mission” which means to send.
Teaching is a vocation, mission, and profession.
Teaching is the most noble profession.
Willful failure to attend seminars and continuing professional development
programs is a ground for the revocation of a professional teacher license.
A professional teacher abides by the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers.
A teacher’s professional competence is demonstrated by his/her mastery of the
subject matter.
In the performance of his/her duty, a professional teacher can support the state
by instilling nationalism to the learners.
A professional teacher has completed a college/ university degree.
The Filipino teacher is a professional. He/she is expected to be technically
competent and highly ethical and moral.
Effective teaching is the primary duty of a professional teacher.









A professional teacher should have a sense of humor. He/she can make learning
fun and do not take things seriously.
A professional teacher SHALL NOT claim credit for work not of his/her own.
A professional teacher should not file charges against superiors under anonymity.
A teacher has the right to complain against transfer of teacher with whom the
school head has prejudice.
A teacher can show respect for community customs and traditions by studying
and striving to understand local customs and traditions.
A professional teacher should be creative. He/she is resourceful and inventive on
how he/she teaches.
Teacher A claims she cares for her students. A teacher possesses fairness if
he/she is gender-sensitive and inclusive in his/her way.
Knowing your students, creating a favorable learning atmosphere, and
maintaining professional distance with the students are manifestations of
genuine care.
Librarians are excluded in the definition of a professional teacher in the Code of
Ethics.
