hope of having a son. Lumnay is upset because she loves Awiyao and doesn’t want this separation.
Outside, the villagers are dancing in celebration of the wedding. Awiyao leaves to try and comfort Lumnay. He
offers her many items of the life that they built together. Lumnay refuses them and clings to Awiyao, wishing he would
stay.

Amador T. Daguio was a poet, novelist and teacher during the pre-war. He was best known for his fictions and poems.
He had published two volumes of poetry, “Bataan Harvest” and the “The Flaming Lyre”. he served as chief editor for the
Philippine House of Representatives before he died in 1966.
Amador Daguio was born on January 8, 1912 in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. His family moved to Lubuagan, Mountain Province,
where his father was an officer in the Philippine Constabulary.
Now, you are going to read the summary of the Philippine short story ‘The Wedding Dance’ written by Amador Daguio. I
assume that you already have knowledge about this because this is the one that we arranged in proper order.
POEM READING
THE WEDDING DANCE by Amador T. Daguio
On his wedding night to a new bride, Awiyao decides to momentarily leave the celebrations to go to his house and visit
his previous wife, Lumnay. The two have been together for seven years but their union has not produced an offspring.
Thus Awiyao's decision to part ways with Lumnay and take another wife, a younger woman named Madulimay. Awiyao
still loves Lumnay and Lumnay still loves Awiyao. But in order for Awiyao to prove himself a man in the eyes of his
community, he must have an offspring. Someone to carry his name forward, the way he carried his father's name.
Awiyao repeatedly asks Lumnay to leave the house and join the wedding dance outside. He tells her that if she joins the
dance, one of the men will take notice of her and might even ask to marry her. If she's luckier with the man, she might
even bear a child with him. But Lumnay tells him that she doens't wan't anyone else. She only wants him.
Awiyao offers Lumnay the house but the latter refuses it, telling him that she needs to go to her parents as they are
already old and they need assistance in planting beans and pounding rice. Awiyao then offers a field but Lumnay
refuses the offer just the same. Lumnay only requests that she keeps her beads as these remind her of the love that
Awiyao has for her. The beads are worth twenty fields. Awiyao gave the beads to her and left to rejoin the festivities.
Suddenly awash with the courage to fight for her feelings, Lumnay decides to go to the wedding and confront the crowd.
To tell the village chief that it is not right to take away Awiyao from her just because she can't bear him a child. However,
as she nears the clearing where the wedding dance is being held, the bright lights spook her. She decides to just get
away from there. She backs away and follows a trail leading away from the village and up a mountain. From a clearing
at the top, Lumnay can see the bright lights of the wedding dance.
The story ends with Lumnay lost among the bean pods at the clearing.
Class, if you were to be asked, should a tradition still be followed even though it will break you and your
family or friends’ relationship like what happened in the story?
The four kinds of sentences
Declarative sentence states a fact or opinion and it ends with a period.
An interrogative sentence asks a question and ends with a question mark.
An imperative sentence expresses a request or gives a command or direction. It also ends with a period or
exclamation mark.
An exclamatory sentence conveys emotion and ends with an exclamation mark.

Processing Questions:
 In preparing the lesson plan, which part is the most difficult to prepare?
Crafting engaging activities that suit diverse learning styles is often the most challenging aspect of preparing a lesson
plan. Designing activities that align with objectives, encourage participation, and cater to various learning preferences
requires careful thought. Striking a balance between theory and application, adapting for different skill levels, and
maintaining flexibility to address unexpected challenges add complexity. Achieving a harmonious blend between content
delivery and student engagement demands a thorough understanding of the subject matter and the students' needs. In
essence, the intricate process of creating a well-rounded lesson plan involves weaving together pedagogy, adaptability,
and a touch of inspiration.
 Which do you think is the most important part of the lesson plan? Why?
The perceived importance of different parts of a lesson plan can vary based on individual teaching philosophies and
priorities. Some educators may prioritize clear learning objectives to guide the lesson, believing they provide a roadmap
for instruction. Others may emphasize engaging activities, considering them crucial for student participation and
comprehension. The choice might also hinge on the subject matter, with content delivery being prioritized for complex
topics. Ultimately, the perceived importance is subjective and depends on the teacher's instructional approach, the

Activity 4.1
Explain the guiding principles in selecting and using appropriate teaching strategies.
 Learning is an active process.
The guiding principle that "learning is an active process" highlights the transformative role of engagement in
education. In practical terms, this principle urges educators to select teaching strategies that go beyond passive
reception of information. Instead, emphasis is placed on methods that prompt students to actively participate in their
learning. Classroom discussions, group activities, hands-on experiments, and problem-solving exercises are
effective approaches aligned with this principle.
Active learning fosters a dynamic exchange between students and the material, facilitating a deeper understanding.
It encourages critical thinking, creativity, and the application of knowledge in real-world scenarios. By incorporating
interactive elements, educators create an environment where students can construct their understanding actively.
This not only enhances comprehension but also reinforces long-term retention.
Moreover, the principle underscores that learning is not a one-size-fits-all process. Recognizing diverse learning
styles, educators can tailor active strategies to cater to various preferences and strengths among students.
Ultimately, embracing the idea that learning is an active process transforms education into a collaborative and
engaging journey, empowering students to become proactive participants in their own intellectual development.

The more senses that are involved in learning, the more and the better learning.
Engaging multiple senses in the learning process enhances comprehension and retention. When learners utilize
various senses, such as sight, hearing, touch, and even movement, it creates a multisensory experience that
strengthens neural connections. For instance, visual aids like diagrams or videos can appeal to the sense of sight, while
auditory elements, such as lectures or discussions, engage hearing. Combining these sensory inputs helps form a more
robust cognitive framework.

Tactile or hands-on activities further deepen understanding by incorporating touch and kinesthetic senses. This
approach is particularly effective in skill acquisition, as it promotes muscle memory and procedural knowledge. The
brain tends to process information more thoroughly when different senses are involved, reinforcing the learning
experience.
Moreover, multisensory learning accommodates diverse learning styles, allowing individuals to leverage their strengths.
For example, a visual learner may benefit from charts, while an auditory learner may excel in discussions. Overall,
embracing a multisensory approach caters to the varied ways in which individuals absorb and process information,
fostering a richer and more comprehensive learning environment.
 Emotion has the power to increase retention and learning.
Emotions play a significant role in learning. Emotions are inherently linked to and influence cognitive skills such as
attention, memory, executive function, decision-making, critical thinking, problem-solving, and regulation, all of which
play a key role in learning. Positive learning emotions include interest, curiosity, wonder, passion, creativity,
engagement, and joy. These activate the reward system of the brain, make the experience desirable, and aid in focus
and attention. Positive emotional states can enable students to broaden their perspective, see alternatives, persist
through challenges, and respond effectively to criticism and failure. On the other hand, negative emotions such as
anxiety, stress, and fear can interfere with learning and memory consolidation. For instance, anxiety can lead to a
decrease in working memory capacity, which can impair learning. Therefore, it is essential to manage negative emotions
to ensure effective learning.
 Learning is meaningful when it is connected to student’s everyday life.
Connecting learning to students' everyday lives enhances its meaningfulness and relevance. When educational content
aligns with their experiences and interests, it becomes more relatable, fostering a deeper understanding and
engagement. This connection provides a context for new information, making it easier for students to grasp and apply in
real-life situations.
Integrating everyday examples and scenarios into lessons not only makes the material more relatable but also highlights
its practical utility. Students are more likely to appreciate the value of what they are learning when they can see its direct
application to their lives. This connection helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and its real-world
implications. Linking learning to everyday life promotes intrinsic motivation. Students are more inclined to invest time
and effort into subjects that they perceive as relevant to their present and future experiences. This motivation
contributes to a positive learning environment, fostering a genuine curiosity and desire to explore the subject matter.
 Good teaching goes beyond recall of information.
Good teaching extends beyond mere information recall. While memorization is one aspect of learning, effective teaching
involves fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of concepts. Rather than simply
transmitting facts, it encourages students to analyze, evaluate, and apply information in various contexts.
A key element of quality teaching is the ability to inspire curiosity and a passion for learning. Encouraging students to
ask questions, explore topics independently, and engage in active inquiry contributes to a more profound and lasting
understanding. The goal is to cultivate a sense of intellectual curiosity that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
good teaching involves adapting to diverse learning styles and individual needs. Recognizing that each student learns
differently, a skilled educator employs various instructional methods and assessments to cater to a range of abilities and
preferences.

 An integral teaching approach is far more effective than teaching isolated bits of information
Integrated teaching is a teaching approach that connects different subjects and topics to create a more comprehensive
learning experience. According to a study, an integrated teaching approach is far more effective than teaching isolated
bits of information. The study also suggests that good teaching goes beyond recall of information and learning is
meaningful when it is connected to students’ everyday life.
Processing Questions
Based on your observations, what is the common level of participation of the students to the teaching
strategies used by the teacher?
Student teachers do participate in learning activities. In fact, interactive classroom activities are a great way to engage
students and help them connect with the lesson on a deeper level. Some examples of interactive classroom activities
include brainstorming, group discussions, role-playing, and games

 Which among the guiding principles of selecting and using teaching strategies is most important? Why?
Guiding principles in the selection and use of appropriate teaching strategies include creating a positive classroom
atmosphere, believing in students’ capacity, making students feel they belong to a community of learners with shared
goals or purpose, encouraging more collaboration and cooperation and less competition, and giving allowance for
mistakes
 Why do teachers need to use various teaching strategies?
Using different teaching strategies is important because it helps students to better understand and retain information, to
develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and to become more engaged in the learning process. Strategies
promote flexible thinking and teach students the importance of shifting their approaches to different tasks. They also
encourage independent learning. By providing a variety of different instructional strategies and materials, teachers can

Activity 5.3
Explain the guiding principles in selecting and using instructional materials.
 All instructional materials are aid to instruction. They do not replace the teacher.
Instructional materials serve as aids to instruction by providing additional resources and tools to support the teaching
process. However, they don't replace the teacher's role in guiding, facilitating discussions, and adapting the learning
experience to meet students' needs. The teacher remains crucial in providing context, clarifying concepts, and fostering
a dynamic and interactive learning environment that goes beyond what instructional materials alone can achieve.
 Choose the instructional materials that best suit your instructional objectives.
Learning objectives: This will help you choose materials that are aligned with your goals.
Consider the content: The instructional material should be relevant to the subject matter and appropriate for the age
and skill level of the learners.
Check for accuracy: Ensure that the instructional material is accurate and up-to-date. You can check for accuracy by
consulting reputable sources or experts in the field.
Assess the quality: The instructional material should be of high quality and engaging. You can assess the quality by
looking at reviews or ratings from other educators.
Evaluate the format: The instructional material should be presented in a format that is easy to understand and use.
Consider the layout, design, and organization of the material.
Consider the cost: Finally, consider the cost of the instructional material. While high-quality materials may be more
expensive, they can be worth the investment in the long run.
 If possible, use a variety of tools.
It's possible and often beneficial to use a variety of instructional tools and resources. Combining traditional resources
like textbooks with modern tools such as multimedia presentations, online simulations, and interactive activities can
create a more engaging and effective learning experience for students, catering to different learning styles and
preferences.

Check out your instructional material before class starts to be sure it is working properly.

students grasp the content effectively.
What types of instructional resources are used by your cooperating teacher in the assessment of
students’ academic performance?
My cooperating teacher likely employs various instructional resources for assessing students' academic performance.
These may include traditional methods like quizzes, tests, and written assignments. Additionally, technology tools such
as online platforms or educational apps might be used for assessments. Observations during class participation and
discussions provide insights into students' understanding. Projects, presentations, and group activities could also be
part of the assessment strategy, offering a holistic view of students' skills. The combination of these diverse resources
allows for a comprehensive evaluation of students' academic progress and contributes to a well-rounded assessment


Processing Question/s
 How essential is the use of varied instructional resources to teaching and learning?
The value of varied instructional resources in teaching and learning is crucial. Using diverse resources accommodates
different learning styles, enhancing student engagement and understanding. Visual aids, technology, hands-on activities,
and real-world examples create a dynamic learning environment. Varied resources cater to individual strengths,
fostering a more inclusive educational experience. They promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Aside from the K to 12 Curriculum Guide and Teacher’s Guide, what is the most essential instructional
resource?
The increasing influence of different media, especially television, the internet and internet communication, as well as
the intense development of science and technology, is reflected on society as a whole, this includes education. This is
one of the reasons why students today, as opposed to those of twenty or even ten years ago, have different interests,
priorities and views on education and the educational process. They want education that is fun, dynamic and
different, such as the digital images on television or web sites.

In the absence of available instructional resources, what is the best thing that a teacher should do to
support teaching and learning activities?
In the absence of instructional resources, a teacher can focus on leveraging alternative teaching methods and strategies.
Emphasize interactive discussions, encourage student participation, and facilitate hands-on activities that require
minimal materials. Incorporate storytelling, questioning techniques, and encourage peer collaboration. Teachers can
also use their creativity to illustrate concepts verbally and draw on the chalkboard or whiteboard. Adapt lessons to reallife examples and experiences to make the content more relatable. While resources enhance teaching, a skilled and
adaptable teacher can create meaningful learning experiences even in resource-constrained situations

State essential qualities that a teacher should possess to effectively manage a class
Activity 16.1
Observe and examine all the strategies implemented by your cooperating teacher to ensure that the class is managed
well.
Classroom Management Strategies
Reasons for Implementation
Establishing clear expectations
Clearly communicate rules, procedures, and expectations
to students at the beginning of the school year or
semester. This helps students understand what is
expected of them and what behavior is acceptable in the
classroom.
Building positive relationships
Develop positive relationships with students by showing
interest in their lives, listening to their concerns, and
providing support when needed. This helps to create a
sense of trust and respect between the teacher and
students.
Recognize and reward students for their positive behavior
and achievements. This can be done through verbal
praise, certificates, or small rewards. Positive
reinforcement encourages students to continue behaving
appropriately and motivates them to do their best.
Incorporate active learning strategies, such as group work,
hands-on activities, and discussions, to keep students
engaged and focused on the lesson. Active learning
promotes student participation and reduces the likelihood
of disruptive behavior.
Regularly reflect on classroom management strategies and
adjust them as needed. Monitor student behavior and
