1. General information about the course
The course is provided by the University of Skövde and is named Leadership and Organizational
Development A1N (Ledarskap och verksamhetsutveckling A1N). It comprises 15 credits and is a secondcycle course. The level of progression is A1N.
The course is a part of the main field of study in Business Administration. The disciplinary domain of the
course is Social Sciences.
2. Entry requirements
To be eligible for the course, a bachelor's degree is required at the undergraduate level in business
administration extensive at least 180 credits (or the equivalent). A further requirement is proof of skills
in English equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as the Swedish course
English 6. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationelly recognized language test, e.g.
IELTS or TOEFL or the equivalent.
3. Course content
The course aims for the student to deepen their knowledge about and understanding of leadership and
organizational development as areas of theory and practical phenomena, respectively. An important
part of this is to be able to evaluate different perspectives in leadership and organizational development
based on their strengths and weaknesses.
In-depth knowledge means being able to describe leadership and organizational development as a
contextual phenomenon for which the context provides both conditions for leadership and
organizational development and affects which leadership and organizational development that is
possible and successful respectively.
Scandinavian working life has features that enable relationship orientation that becomes a particularly
important perspective within both leadership and organizational development, which means that cooperation becomes a central concept.
The course also aims to support students in synthesis of the concepts of leadership and organizational
development.
4. Objectives
After completed course the student should be able to:
describe and evaluate theories in leadership and in organizational development based on strengths
and weaknesses,
describe the features of scandinavian working life and analyze how it affects leadership and
organizational development,
analyze leadership and organizational development from different perspectives,
analyze conditions for and expression of leadership and organizational development, depending on
cultural context (nation, business, organization),
make assessments from a gender and diversity perspective relevant to leadership and
organizational development, and
make a synthesis of knowledge between the areas of leadership and organizational development.
5. Examination
The course is graded A (Excellent), B (Very good), C (Good), D (Satisfactory), E (Sufficient) or F (Fail).
To obtain the grade Pass on the entire course it is required that all steps are passed.
The final grade of the course is determined by a average of the grades for the examination part
supervised written examination and assignment. The average value is rounded to the nearest higher
grade and determines the final grade of the course.
The examinations of the course consist of the following modes of assessment:

Students with a permanent disability who have been approved for directed educational support may be
offered adapted or alternative modes of assessment.
6. Types of instruction and language of instruction
The teaching is comprised of group assignments, seminars and lectures.
The teaching is conducted in English.

Student influence in the course is ensured by means of course evaluation. The students are informed
