COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course on recreational activities are associated with outdoor, natural or semi-natural settings that include but are not limited to land navigation (e.g.
orienteering), camping and mountaineering (e.g. hiking/trekking). These activities enable the learners to move safely (includes first aid) and competently in such settings by
building a positive relationship with the environment and promoting their sustainable use (e.g. Leave No Trace Pinciples)
PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
1. Develop proficiency in land navigation techniques, including orienteering, map reading, compass use, and navigating diverse outdoor terrains.
2. Learn essential camping skills, such as setting up tents, cooking outdoors, and proper equipment usage, while understanding principles of camping safety and emergency
preparedness.
3. Gain competence in mountaineering activities, mastering skills for hiking, trekking, and safely ascending and descending various terrains.
4. Acquire basic first aid knowledge and skills relevant to outdoor activities, enabling effective response to common injuries and emergencies in natural settings.
5. Foster a positive and respectful relationship with the natural environment, understanding the impact of recreational activities on ecosystems and their role in outdoor
recreation.
6. Promote and adhere to sustainable practices, including the application of Leave No Trace Principles, while developing an understanding of environmental conservation and
responsible outdoor recreation.
7. Cultivate a strong awareness of safety measures and precautions in outdoor settings, understanding and applying safety protocols to ensure well-being during recreational
activities.
8. Develop effective communication skills and teamwork abilities essential for group outdoor activities, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment among
participants.
9. Enhance problem-solving skills, particularly in the context of challenges encountered during outdoor activities, and learn to make informed decisions in dynamic and
unpredictable environments.
10. Improve physical fitness and endurance levels to meet the demands of outdoor recreational activities, understanding the importance of maintaining overall health for
sustained participation.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Showcase effective navigation using maps and compasses in diverse outdoor settings, applying orienteering skills to safely plan and execute routes.
2. Efficiently set up and dismantle camping equipment, practicing safe and responsible camping, including site selection, cooking, and waste management.
3. Exhibit proficiency in hiking and trekking techniques across various terrains, applying mountaineering safety measures during ascents and descents.
4. Demonstrate basic first aid skills relevant to outdoor scenarios and respond appropriately to common injuries and emergencies in outdoor environments.
5. Develop a heightened awareness of the natural environment and ecosystems, exhibiting behaviors that reflect a positive and respectful relationship with nature.
6. Apply Leave No Trace Principles to minimize the environmental impact of recreational activities and advocate for sustainable practices in outdoor adventures.
7. Identify potential hazards in outdoor settings, implement preventive measures, and respond effectively to emergencies, prioritizing safety for oneself and others.
8. Engage in effective communication and teamwork during group activities, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment among peers.

COURSE POLICIES
Attendance:
1. Be on time to attend physical classes.
2. More than 10 minutes late is considered absent
3. Always beat the deadline in submitting documents
4. Passing rate is 60% which is equivalent to letter grade of D (professional subject)
Lashing
Quizzes:
1. No special quiz is given to students who failed to attend his/her classes without excusable reasons (as stated in student manual).
2. A special quiz may be considered during an online activity upon the decision of the teacher. The final word from the Department Chair is final and irrevocable.
Examinations:
1. No special examinations will be given for late and absent students, except for valid reasons (sickness, death of immediate family, or in cases where a student is sent as a
delegate or representative of the college in school-approved activity)
2. A special exam may be considered if missed, upon the decision of the teacher.
3. The final word from the Department Chair is final and irrevocable.
Uniform:
1. Wearing prescribed uniform is a must.
2. Students not in uniform may be denied entry to class or deducted points for the assigned activity of the day.
3. Uniform must be worn according to whether the class is lecture or laboratory.
Class Rules:
1. If the student is absent from a class, he/she is responsible for arranging make-up assignments with the teacher concerned. Excused absences are only for the following
reasons: illness, environmental constraints, death of an immediate family member, field trips or seminars in other subjects. (p. 19). Medical certificate, government memo
or announcement, death certificate, and school memo, respectively, are required.
2. Any student who incurs more than 20% unexcused absences for the whole semester will AUTOMATICALLY receive a grade of FA (Failure due to absences) regardless of
her initial standing in the class. (p.19)
3. Always wear the prescribed uniform - which includes your ID.
4. Inquiries/clarifications during quizzes and examinations shall be addressed to the teacher ONLY. Talking/whispering to another student is strictly prohibited. (p. 30)
5. No student shall be allowed to leave the room during a quiz or examination. (p. 30)
6. Online quizzes / asynchronous classes, if there are any, shall be announced. Google Classroom will be provided for announcements, uploads of powerpoints etc, and online
activities. The student must secure his/her institutional email account from Ma’am Xenia Repuela.
7. Checking of attendance shall be checked every meeting and shall commence 10 minutes after the official class schedule.
8. Inquiries shall be communicated to the teacher either via google classroom, email, or in-person during OFFICIAL consultation hours. ***consultation hours will be posted
in Google Classroom.
9. Inquiries sent via Messenger or other social messaging platforms shall not be entertained.
10. Contests relating to grade or score received shall be done WITHIN 10 working days from the moment the score/grade was communicated to the student. Issues raised
beyond the aforementioned time frame shall not be entertained. Contesting a grade should be first addressed to the teacher concerned. If the student is not satisfied with the
teacher’s explanation, then the student may address the issue to the department heads, then the VPAA, and lastly, to the institution’s President.
