INTRODUCTION
A popular choice amongst the rich and famous, the Electra was Lockheed’s first twin-engined, all-metal design
and took its maiden flight in 1934. A highly modified Model 10E was made famous by Amelia Earhart, who
tragically disappeared during a round-the-world record attempt. Highly evocative of the 30s and 40s, the Electra
appeared in many movies, carrying Humphrey Bogart to some distant Pacific island and battling valiantly after
being pressed into military service during WWII. All this nostalgia is ready-built into this Lockheed Electra Model
10 for Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D.
Special texturing techniques have been employed to enhance the nostalgic theme of this aircraft, bringing to life
the metal skinning and riveted assemblies of this iconic airframe.
Thirteen authentic liveries evoke the glamour and excitement of 1930s aviation and a full Pro quality paint kit is
available so you can add your own historic or fictional paint schemes.
The full-bodied sound pack really brings the Electra alive and the large super-detailed radials roar into life with
vibrating exhausts and plenty of smoke!

You can install this Electra Model 10A software as often as you like on the same computer system.
To re-download the software:
1. Click on the ‘Account’ tab on the Just Flight website
2. Log in to your account
3. Select the ‘Your Orders’ button
4. A list of your purchases will appear and you can then download the software you require
Accessing the aircraft
To access the aircraft in FSX:
1. Click on ‘Free Flight’
2. Select ‘Just Flight’ from the ‘Publisher’ drop-down menu
3. Select ‘Lockheed’ from the Manufacturer drop-down and choose one of the schemes
Tick the ‘Show all variations’ box to see all the available paint schemes.
To access the aircraft in Prepar3D:
1. Select Aircraft > Select Aircraft from the menu bar
2. Select the ‘Publisher’ filter mode and then select ‘Just Flight’ from the list of publishers
3. Choose one of the schemes and click on ‘OK’

To access the aircraft in Prepar3D v2 or Prepar3D v3:
1. Click on ‘Vehicles’ in the menu bar
2. Type ‘Lockheed’ into the search bar, or select ‘Group by Publisher’ and scroll down the list to locate
‘Just Flight’
3. Choose one of the schemes and click on ‘OK’
Uninstalling
To uninstall this software from your system:
•
Go to the Windows Start menu and select ‘Control Panel’ (if you are in Windows Classic view, Control
Panel will be found under ‘Settings’).
•
Double-click on the item ‘Add or Remove Programs’ (Windows XP) or ‘Programs and Features’ (Windows
Vista or 7). In Windows 8 move your mouse to the bottom left corner, right-click with your mouse, then
left-click on the ‘Programs and Features’ menu that appears. In Windows 10 move your mouse to the
bottom left corner and left-click on the ‘Start’ button. Left-click on the ‘Settings’ icon and on the window
that appears, left-click on ‘System’ and then select ‘Apps & features’. Select the required product in the
list and then click on ‘Uninstall’ twice and follow the on-screen instructions.

Select the program you want to uninstall from the list provided and click the ‘Uninstall’ option.
•
Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the program.
Uninstalling or deleting this software in any other way may cause problems when using this program in the future
or with your Windows set-up.

PANEL GUIDE
Pilot’s panel
1. NAV 1/2 and ADF1 gauge – the NAV 1/2 selector switch is used to select which bearing (NAV 1 or NAV 2)
is indicated by the white needle. The yellow ADF needle displays the bearing to ADF 1. The heading knob
is used to adjust the compass card.
2. Airspeed indicator – shown in MPH
3. Artificial horizon – the pitch adjustment knob can be used to adjust the position of the pitch bars.
The attitude gyro can be caged using the PULL TO CAGE knob.
4. Altitude indicator – three-needle display (hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands) with inHG barometric
pressure setting
5. Clock – the red hands can be adjusted by rotating the two concentric knobs
6. Vertical speed indicator
7. Radio compass – the red needle displays NAV1 and the green needle displays NAV 2. A card adjustment
knob allows the compass card to be rotated.

Sperry Gyro-Pilot
1. Sensitivity rheostat for rudder knob (non-functional in this simulation)
2. Heading knob – left-click to adjust current heading. Right-click to cage the heading gyro as required for
take-off.
3. Heading indicator – the top scale indicates your desired heading, which can be set using the rudder knob.
The bottom scale indicates your current heading.
4. Power indicator light
5. Rudder knob – in the real Sperry Gyro-Pilot this allows the pilot/co-pilot to control the heading of the
aeroplane via the rudder control surfaces. In this simulation it is used to set the desired heading, which can
then be held by the Gyro-Pilot.
6. Aileron knob (non-functional in this simulation)
7. Elevator knob – on the real Sperry Gyro-Pilot this allows the pilot/co-pilot to control the pitch of the
aeroplane via the elevator control surfaces. In this simulation it controls the desired pitch angle of the
autopilot.

TUTORIAL – FLYING THE ELECTRA
The Electra 10A can be started using the [CTRL]+[E] method but, if you are feeling adventurous or are not in
too much of a hurry to get off the ground, you can follow these steps to start the aircraft. If you wish to use
[CTRL]+[E] then the Quick Start switch (please see the Co-pilot’s panel (page 10) section of the Panel Guide for
its position) will turn on everything that is needed to get you up in the air.
The following steps assume that the aircraft is configured in a ‘Cold & Dark’ state, but you can simply skip any
steps that have already been completed if the aircraft is partially configured.
Getting started
Whilst there isn’t a right or a wrong way to start the Electra, if the master battery is not connected the gauges
do not indicate their respective information. So, with that in mind, we make sure that the battery is on and the
avionics have power.
MASTER – ON
AUX MASTER – ON
With the master battery connected, we can check that we have enough fuel for the trip. This Electra is equipped
with an auxiliary fuel tank that will allow for slightly longer trips. Check the fuel quantity using the gauge on the
co-pilot’s shelf and then turn the engine 1 fuel lever to main.

Switch on the avionics master and then turn on the radios. Remember that you can use the Quick Start switch
under the radios to turn everything on if desired.

Starting the engines
Turn on the engine 1 fuel pump, using the switch found on the overhead panel, and increase the engine 1 mixture
to 50% using the lever on the centre pedestal. If the outside air temperature is particularly cold a richer mixture
may be desirable.

Switch the engine 1 ignition to BOTH and the master ignition switch to ON. Turn on the engine 1 alternator
switch whilst you are focused on the overhead panel.

Advance the throttle lever to approximately 25%.

We are now ready to start the left engine. Set the PRIMER and STARTER switches on the overhead panel to the
LEFT position. Once the left engine has started, move both the primer and starter switches back to their centre
position. Since your focus is on the overhead panel, use this time to turn off the left fuel pump.

Taxi
With both engines running sweetly, you are now ready to enjoy the experience of flying a real classic. Make sure
that the flaps are at 0 degrees (the flap position indicator is located to the left of the pilot).
FLAPS – 0°
Move the mixture levers to the fully rich position. Once you reach altitudes above 2,500ft you will need to lean off
the mixture to maintain maximum RPM.
MIXTURES – FULLY RICH
Increase the RPM to approximately 1,300 RPM, release the parking brake and taxi to your chosen runway.
RPM – 1,300 RPM

Take-off
Line up with the runway centre line and then come to a stop. Lock the tailwheel and then bring the throttle
levers forward to around 25%. Check that the engines are stable, using the engine instrument gauges, and then
advance the throttles to apply full power.
As the aircraft starts to gather speed, keep it running down the centre line with small rudder inputs. As you
approach 70 knots, start to raise the nose of the aircraft. Slowly bring the nose up as you lift off the runway.
The aircraft will begin to climb away from the runway and you should be well clear of the ground by the time you
reach 90 knots. Raise the undercarriage using the [G] key and use the elevator trim to maintain a steady climb.

Climb and cruise
Depending on your realism settings, the Electra can be a handful. Keep monitoring the oil pressures, hydraulic
pressures and the carburettor and cylinder temperatures. Normally there is a co-pilot to do this, but in this case it
is your job alone.
Whilst climbing and in the cruise try to keep the RPM within the limits of 2,000-2,500 RPM. This can be achieved
by careful throttle control and/or mixture control. To achieve full RPM above 3,000ft you will need to lean out the
mixture a little.
For hands-off flying you will need to trim the aircraft’s control surfaces in the cruise.
Click and drag the elevator trim as desired to control the pitch of the Electra in flight. The elevator trim is
controlled using the left handle on the roof of the cockpit.
Click and drag the rudder trim as desired to control the yaw of the Electra in flight. The rudder trim is controlled
using the right handle on the roof of the cockpit.
Descent and landing
Before beginning the descent, check that the fuel selectors are on and that the mixtures are set to fully rich.
You may need to get out of trouble quickly and you don’t want the engine to stall! On approach, make sure that
the landing gear is down (two green indicator lights). Reduce your speed down to 75-85 knots and lower the
flaps to the fully extended position (40°).

To land the Electra, lightly touch the front wheels down on the runway. Then use a little back pressure on the
stick to get the tail down whilst applying a minimum of braking. This can be a little tricky and will require
some practice. Coming in a little faster than 85 knots helps with stability but makes the landing a little tougher
to ‘grease’.
Once you are down, taxi to your designated parking area and then begin the shutdown sequence. You can then
let the passengers out and shut down all the relevant systems.

PAINT KIT
Depending on the texture that you are painting, you will need to choose either the chrome model or the matte
model as the material settings are very different.
The mapping was done cylindrically and then flattened. At all times consideration for vertical and horizontal lines/
rivets was taken, so you should be able to use a grid and it will render correctly in the sim.
We have included registration marks in the paint kit to allow for a full-side texture technique. This technique has
been discussed on a number of sites and is the technique that we use to texture our raw files.
If desired, the chrome material can be made more reflective by darkening the alpha channel.
The same specular and bump maps are used on both sides of the fuselage, so you will only find left shader
textures in the shared texture folder. This was done to reduce calls.
Please remember that each texture has its own interior vinyl map to allow for the option of different colours. If
you don’t include the vinyl map it will default to the orange-red-brown vinyl that is featured on the blank texture.

Here at Just Flight we have invested significant time, effort and money in developing, manufacturing and
publishing all of our flight simulation products. This includes rewarding the programmers and artists whose
creativity contributes so much to the products we all enjoy.
A pirate, otherwise known as a thief, makes a profit from the sale of other people’s hard work. In some cases
he makes more profit than the publishers and developers make from the sale of an original title. Piracy is not
just the domain of the casual domestic user in his or her back room, but is also a multi-million-pound business
conducted by criminals often associated with the illegal drugs trade. Buying or downloading pirated copies of
programs directly support these illegal operations.
Don’t be fooled by a load of old tosh about file ‘sharing’. The sites that host these ‘shared’ files cover their
backsides with the excuse that they are simply a ‘gateway’ to the files. In fact they actively encourage piracy and
are often funded by advertising. Most of them are illegal money-laundering operations by another name.
The people who really suffer from game piracy are the artists, programmers and other committed game
development staff. Piracy and theft directly affects people and their families. Loss of revenue to the games
industry through piracy means many are losing their jobs due to cut-backs that have to be made to ensure
developers and publishers survive. The logical outcome of this is that eventually the supply of flight simulation
programs will dry up because developers think it is not worth the hassle.
It’s not just copying software that is against the law. Owning copied software also constitutes a criminal offence,
so anyone buying or downloading from these people is also at risk of arrest and prosecution.
