HISTO: We finished the Biological Staining and review, Quiz on Friday, Jan 20th , quiz information will be up to about page 28 of study manual. Just a couple points she made that ‘may’ be on the quiz: *Know which stains are progressive/regressive *Don’t really need to know pages 22, 23 & 24 of the study manual, but know that the IHC Direct Method is less sensitive & used for renal & skin biopsies & what APUD cells are *Gravimetric factor calculation (page 8 in Study Manual) *Interfacial effect (dye concentration is higher at the surface) this is why we dip the slides up and down *Orcein dye can be Natural or Synthetic. *Fixative effects on staining (Acidic fixative like Zenker will decrease basophilic charges, because DNA/RNA is acidic and basophilic, Zenker attaches to these groups) HEME: Finished up to Mononucleosis on Lecture 3, will do the Mono test in lab next week *Review Anemia flow chart from FALL, there will be about 10 questions on the first test on this *know this chart: *know this FAB classification of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemias: *Get familiar with absolute count #’s for WBC’s (Eosinophils – 0.6 x 10^9/L; Basophils 0.2 x 10^9/L etc) TRANSFUSION: We didn’t finish the whole slide show Pretransfusion & Compatibility Testing, so no antigrams today but we will start it on Monday (important class) *Talked about Cross Matching and compatibility of Red cells, platelets, cryo etc. Identical ABO compatibility doesn’t matter for cryo because there is very little residual plasma, nothing too advanced today. MICRO: We got up to Arthropods in the Helminths lecture, basically just read the powerpoints *she did make one comment to know the stages of the malaria life cycle and how to identify them (microscopically) CHEMISTRY: Who knows really lol But we finished up to Immunoassays 2, and first quiz is on Thursday Jan 19 and she passed out a worksheet (Quiz 1 Review) she said she posted it online but I don’t see it, I have mine half-filled in but I can send it to you
