Speaker name: Evaluator: College Motivational Speech Workshop Peer Evaluation Worksheet Directions: (Part 1 – Writing Workshop) During the assigned workshop day, you will be partnered with a classmate. First, share your rough draft with your partner using email or google docs. Second, read your partner’s rough draft. Third, answer all questions below, providing detailed feedback in each answer and then share these notes with the speaker via email or google docs. Once you have completed both parts of this worksheet, you will upload this document to the College Motivational Workshop Assignment on Canvas. Use the notes your partner has provided to you, in addition to your instructor’s feedback on your rough draft, to make improvements to your speech before the final draft is due. Writing Workshop Prompts: Have they formatted their speech correctly using the Preparation Outline Template? If not, how can they improve the format of the speech? Is there an effective attention-getter? Did the speaker introduce themselves by name after stating their attention getter? If not, how could this be improved? For example: “Did you know that on average, someone with a bachelor’s degree will earn over $1 million dollars more over the course of their lifetime than an individual with no college degree? Hello, my name is _____ and I would like to share my personal college experience with you.” (see Top Hat, chapter 6) Is the purpose of the speech clearly stated in the introduction? If not, how could this be improved? Is the thesis clearly stated? Your thesis is a one-sentence summary of your entire speech. If not, how could this be improved? (See Top Hat, chapter 6) Were three main points made throughout the speech? Are they developed with details, or do they need to continue to add more depth to their points? Main Point 1: Did the speaker discuss their major/potential interests/field they want to explore? Main Point 2: Did the speaker provide resources/mentors both ON and OFF campus that can help them in their goals/completing college? Main Point 3: Did the speaker list advice they would give themselves during times of uncertainty? Were there clear transitions made between each main point? This is a statement between main points that includes a brief review of the last main point, a signpost, and a preview of the next point. For example: “Now that we have talked about the role bees play in the environment, next, we need to learn why bee populations are declining.” (see Top Hat, chapter 6) Directions: (Part 2 – Delivery Workshop) Take turns with your partner delivering your entire Introduction and Main point 1. Once both parts of this worksheet have been completed, upload this document to the College Motivational Workshop Assignment on Canvas. What was one strength of their verbal delivery? One strength of their physical delivery? What is one or two areas the speaker could work on improving before their presentation day?
