Here are three key takeaways from the webinar on Jhocson Colegio Filipino:
1. Mariano Ponce founded the National University, the country's first
nonreligious university, in 1900. He thought that a non-sectarian
college would give Filipinos a better, more thorough education and
that education was the key to the Philippines' advancement. The
university was also the first to use English as the main language of
instruction and to hire American professors.
2. Mariano Ponce's professional background and educational
background equipped him for his position as the National University's
founder. He completed a business administration program at the
Ateneo Municipal de Manila, where he attended classes. In addition,
he engaged in the Philippine Revolution while operating as a
businessman. These encounters equipped him with the know-how
and abilities required to manage a prosperous university.
3. The growth of the Philippines was significantly influenced by the
National University. The university provided high-quality education,
thereby preparing Filipinos for leadership roles in society. University
graduates have gone on to have successful careers as professionals,
company owners, and politicians.
