Mariano Ponce founded the National University, the country's first nonreligious university, in 1900. He thought that a non-sectarian college would give Filipinos a better, more thorough education and that education was the key to the Philippines' advancement. The university was also the first to use English as the main language of instruction and to hire American professors. 2. Mariano Ponce's professional background and educational background equipped him for his position as the National University's founder. He completed a business administration program at the Ateneo Municipal de Manila, where he attended classes. In addition, he engaged in the Philippine Revolution while operating as a businessman. These encounters equipped him with the know-how and abilities required to manage a prosperous university. 3. The growth of the Philippines was significantly influenced by the National University. The university provided high-quality education, thereby preparing Filipinos for leadership roles in society. University graduates have gone on to have successful careers as professionals, company owners, and politicians.
