THE BIRTH OF JESUS Scene 1 – Mary and Angel Gabriel Long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, an angel of the Lord, Gabriel, was sent to visit a virgin named Mary. She was pledged to be married to a carpenter named Joseph, a descendant of David. The angel went and said unto her, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you”. Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting it might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you shall call him Jesus. He will be great and be called the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David and he will reign in his Kingdom. Scene Two – Mary and Joseph When Mary told Joseph, he was hurt and confused because he did not believe Mary. Scene three – Angel Gabriel and Joseph The angel Gabriel visited Joseph and told him, "do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit," and her son, Jesus, would save the people from their sins. Scene 4 – Mary and Joseph – on the journey So Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem because of an order from the Roman emperor that a census, or record, of all people be taken in their hometown. Scene 5 – Mary, Joseph and the Inn owner Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem and were told there were no places to stay. The inns were full. Seeing that Mary was due at any moment, an inn owner told Joseph they could stay in his stable. Scene 6 – Mary and Joseph in the stable Mary and Joseph settled on the hay. Mary went into labor, and Jesus was born in the stable. The only place for the sleeping baby to rest was the animals' trough, known as the manger. Scene 7 – Angel, 3 shepherd and host of heaven During this time, an angel appeared to shepherds who were watching their flocks in the fields near Bethlehem and they were terrified. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. This will be a sign to you; you will find a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth. Peace to those on who, his favor rests.” then the angels had left them. Scene 8 – Mary, Joseph with the baby and the 3 shepherds The shepherds went on to Bethlehem to see the newborn Messiah. And when they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told to them about this child. Scene 9 – Herod and the 3 wise men After some time, three wise men, also known as magi, saw the brilliant star in the sky that rested over where Jesus was born. The three wise men traveled from a distant eastern country to find the new king. During the wise men's trip, Herod, the king of Judah, met with the wise men. Herod told them to come back and let him know where the baby king was so that he could also worship him. Scene 10 – Mary, Joseph with the baby and the 3 wise men. The wise men continued to Bethlehem and found Jesus where the star pointed. They knelt and worshipped the Savior and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And this was how our Lord Jesus was born as human into the world.
