TASKS: ★ ★ ★ Quick Test on Rivers. What are contour lines and what do they tell us? Watch the youtube clips: Go through demonstration slides with maps on and drawing cross sections. Demonstration. Students complete activities to show understanding of contours.Mix and match sheet, join dots and cross section sheet and 4 cross section sheet. SUCCESS CRITERIA: Students will be able to identify height on a map and be able to describe the relief of the land just by using the contour lines. HOMEWORK: Complete the 2nd Spot height join up sheet. What are contour lines? Lines on a map that join places of the same height They show the height and relief (shape) of land. On most OS maps the lines are drawn every 10m. Several contours together make up a pattern which show the steepness and shape of the land. Remember the closer the contour lines, the steeper the slope What are contour lines? Discuss: Which slope would be steeper to climb? How can you tell? a) b) Where is it steep? How can you tell? 3D in real life 2D on a map 1300 1200 1100 1000 900 1300 1200 1100 1000 900 Match the contours to the relief Task: Look at the shape and size of the land in the right column and join them to the matching contours on the left Producing a contour map from spot heights 1 Join up the spot heights to make contour lines (lines which join places of the same height) ∙Remember contour lines never cross each other ∙The 50 metre line has been started for you 2 Use layer colouring to show the different heights of the land Wednesday 19th September 2018 INTRO TO GEOG LO: To SUMMATIVELY test what you have learnt over the past few weeks and to self-evaluate. TASKS: ★ Get test paper and OS map extract and answer all questions on lined paper. This will take the duration of the lesson. SUCCESS CRITERIA: Students will have evidence that they can use 4/6 figure grid references, measure distance on a map, interpret contour lines and generally understand maps. HOMEWORK:
