Job Description: Children’s Programming Librarian Description: Under the general supervision of the Director, performs a variety of duties including working at the circulation desk, interlibrary loan, plus planning, preparing and implementing programs for children throughout the year. Schedule includes evening and Saturday hours. Examples of Duties: Interacts with patrons as they check out and return items Assists patrons with copies, printing, scanning and faxing Assists patrons with computer issues and other equipment Provides reference and reader’s advisory services Helps maintain the collection to promote its use by patrons Processes interlibrary loan materials Plans, prepares, and implements children’s programs including, but not limited to Story Times, Summer Reading Programs, 1,000 Books before Kindergarten Plans and decorates floats for the Freedom Festival parade and Lighted Christmas parade. Needs to attend these two parades. Writes articles for quarterly newsletter Interacts with the public in positive ways to help create a favorable impression of the library Requirements: Strong commitment to public service Excellent English communication skills, oral and written, and public-speaking/presentation skills Excellent computer, word processing, and internet skills Ability to maintain reliable schedule and regular attendance Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate effective library services Excellent organization and problem-solving skills Satisfactory criminal background check Experience and Training: High school diploma or GED Graduation from a college or university preferred Experience with Word, Excel, and other application software Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities Additional Information: Wage per hour: $13.50 Number of hours per week: 25 Benefits: Paid holidays and sick time.
