I. INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate understanding of: Philippine literature in the Period
of Emergence as a tool to assert one’s identity; strategies in
listening to and viewing of informative and short narrative texts; word relationships and
associations; informative speech forms; and use of direct/reported speech, passive/
active voice, simple past and past perfect tenses, and sentence connectors.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
The learner transfers learning by: showing ways of asserting one’s identity;
comprehending informative and short narrative texts using schema and appropriate
listening and viewing strategies; expressing ideas, opinions, and feelings through
various formats; and enriching written and spoken communication using
direct/reported speech, active/passive voice, simple past and past perfect tenses and
connectors correctly and appropriately
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Identify the traits of the characters in the selection.
b. Explain how a selection may be influenced by culture, history, environment
or other factors.
c. Manifest humility and justice to fellowmen.

1. Post a pictures of poor family and rich family.
2. Describe each picture.
3. Reading of the story through Reader’s Theatre.
4. Guided Group Activity (Each group has a representative to read the
assigned story) Online task.
5. Students are grouped into 3 and each group is assigned to read a
particular part of the story
 ANALYSIS
1. What traits are being shown by each character?
2. What makes the ordinary family happy?
3. Why does the rich man file a case against the ordinary family?
4. If you were the rich man in the story, would you do the same thing?
Why or why not?
 ABSTRACTION
How do culture, history and environment affect one’s attitude
towards life?
The Filipino culture is a summation of indigenous forces and
foreign influence that had come to bear upon the people in varying
degrees during the last centuries. These foreign influences that contributed in the
shaping of a Filipino culture are as follows: Malays, Chinese, Indian Influence, Hindu
Influence, Spanish Heritage, and Americans.
The Filipino culture’s existence and development is viewed and interpreted in
many ways. Some of them are: The traditional concept, The nationalistic view,
Cultural dualism.
Culture is central to the way we view, experience and engage with all aspects
of our lives and the world around us. It is externally affected between and among
societies, history and environment which may also produce or inhibit social shifts and
changes in cultural practices.
 APPLICATION
Compare and contrast the two families using the Venn Diagram in terms of:
1. The way the children are brought up
2. Their eating habits
3. The way they treat their neighbors
