Bruno/Wolf All questions are based off stories that are owned and/or published in McGraw-Hill’s Wonders, 3rd Grade. Unit 1 Week 1 “Bruno’s New Home” & Wolf © Priceless Education Unit 1 Week 1 ~How to use this product~ Bruno/Wolf These questions are meant to be difficult and push the students so they are prepared to take unit and end-of-year tests. How I use the questions: We read each story three times (I read, we read, partner read) during the week. After the third reading, we answer these questions. At the beginning of the year, we complete the questions together as a class and discuss the questions, the question types, and test-taking strategies. As the year progresses, I have students complete the questions in small groups (4-5 students). They discuss why some answers are wrong and why their choice is the correct answer. This gets students working together, allows them to practice both academic vocabulary and language orally, and provides students opportunities to go back to the text to show each other their evidence. As students gain more confidence in their ability to answer questions as a group, they then complete the questions in partners to foster even more independence. Finally, when students are ready, I have the students complete the questions independently. It is important to note that after a majority of the students have finished the questions, we always discuss the questions and answers as a class. All students correct their own paper with a different colored pen so they can learn from the mistakes they make. We examine each answer choices to see why it is correct or incorrect. I grade the writing questions afterwards. As a class, we frequently discuss the importance of seeing mistakes and learning from them. Mistakes are a part of learning! Other ideas: Use them as quizzes, homework, formative assessments, practice questions, extension work, smallgroup work, or rotation work. © Priceless Education Unit 1 Week 1 Bruno/Wolf RWW Pg. 22-27 Name: _______________________ “Bruno’s New Home” 1.
