The Global DBA: Durham-emlyon
Learn from and collaborate with
internationally renowned
faculty
at two of Europe’s most
innovative and exciting
business schools
Durham University Business School and emlyon
business school have joined forces to create a
joint executive Global Doctorate in Business
Administration (GDBA) programme - The Global
DBA: Durham-emlyon.
This programme has been specifically designed
in response to a growing need of business
leaders to challenge current business practice
and devise new methods for progression in times
of technological and geopolitical change, and
increasing uncertainty.
By combining an academically rigorous education
with business practice, the programme will enable
students to update their business knowledge and
enhance their analytical and critical thinking
capabilities through modules delivered across the
globe in Durham (UK), Paris (France) and Tokyo
(Japan).
The GDBA also requires students to produce a
doctoral thesis – an original piece of research
focused on solving a core issue within their
own industry or organisation. With their career
experience and their new academic learning, this
thesis will create real business impact and value.

“Having already a PhD, I have chosen to apply for the G-DBA in order to leverage
on my industrial and research experience in a world class research environment
offered by two top European business schools. The G-DBA programme is the
most appropriate programme for carrying out action research and question
the impact of the findings not only at an academic and a business managerial
context butmost importantly at a societal one. The learning experience so far has
been more than rewarding as I have had the opportunity to meet with, and learn
from, not only other professionals sharing the same passion for research but also
with distinguished professors who excel in their scholarship domains.”
Ziad Skaff / Managing Director (MENA) / Hall & Partners
“I think today global is the name of the game and it is something that everyone is aiming
for. We live and work in a global society and when it comes to business I think being part
of the Global programme is very enriching. It’s theory and practice at the same time. I’m
looking at really advancing my career and my learning but at the same time contributing

Shaped by the past
Studying at
emlyon business school
Since its creation 140 years ago, emlyon business
school has been driven by entrepreneurship,
innovation and humanism. Our vision and mission
are nurtured by our global and digital world.
Durham has been a renowned place of learning for
over 1,000 years; the University is over 180 years old
and the Business School was founded in 1965.
World-class facilities
In today’s world, a “maker” is someone who takes their
destiny into their own hands, who shapes and molds
their own future. Yet this is not a purely individual
approach. On the contrary, it is a collaborative
process. In other words, the principle is no longer “Do
It Yourself”, but rather “Do It Together”. This concept
perfectly reflects our vision of what an entrepreneur
is, i.e. a person who tries, experiments, fails, starts
again and learns by doing.
Durham University Business School boasts several
state of the art lecture theatres, as well as a library and
IT Study Suite which students can access 24/7.
Paris campus
Durham has a compact, friendly feel but still provides
the facilities you would expect from a thriving
city including excellent boutiques, cafes, bars and
restaurants.
An ultra-connected and innovative site, the Paris
campus is part of emlyon business school’s
globalisation approach. The 5,500 m2 Haussmannstyle campus is located in the heart of Paris, next to
“Gare de Lyon” train station.
At Durham University Business School we are
committed to providing you with the knowledge
and skills you need to stand out from the crowd.
We recognise that the global market place is
highly competitive, and so that’s why our facilities,
programmes, teaching and business connections are
all designed to help you get ahead of the competition.
Global alumni network
When you join us, you become a member of the
Business School’s alumni network. With over
36,000 members in over 150 countries, it facilitates
friendships and business connections, and sits at the
heart of the ‘Durham Experience’. Our online alumni
community offers members a range of benefits, from
continuous skills sharpening through webinars and
careers workshops to online career resources and
global network building events.
“I chose Durham – emlyon because of the
reputation and because it is the first of its
kind. In this increasingly global environment
business world, I feel the Global DBA will be
the best tool that I can add to my toolbox.”
emlyon business school is situated in 6 campuses in 4
continents (Lyon, Shanghai, Saint-Etienne, Casablanca,
Paris, Bhubaneswar), has an alumni network of
over 33,000 in 130 countries and is home to France’s
premier start-up incubator.
In Durham City you’re among some of the world’s finest
architecture where the famous Castle and Cathedral
together designated a UNESCO WORLD Heritage Site
dominate the skyline.
However it’s not just about academic achievement.
You’ll also have the opportunity to embrace a wide
range of extra-curricular activities including sport, arts
and music that will enrich your student experience.
