Reading Assignment – Seven: Dance in the 21st Cent Postmodernism transitioned from traditional standards into a more developed way of dance. Not only did the constantly changing global culture play a role in this but experimentation did as well. The choreographers experimented with movement indicating self expression, along with spontaneous moves. These choreographers and dancers have transformed and enhanced dance in many ways. Postmodernism has developed specific interests to differentiate from the traditional practices: 1. This interest used the concept of improvisation and spontaneous movement. This dance was performed in a room with a singular dancer. The dancer is seen expressing movement and use of his arms to almost guide his body. The movements are quick and concise. It can also determine that the dancer is using strength with the movement he is making. 2. This interest guided dance in a new direction, introducing the idea of new concepts for the story of dances. This dance is representing social issues within the world, which is why it is titled trauma. It is considered a huge social issue in the world. Each dancer is solemn with expression 3. These dancers are shown using a variety of extremely physically challenging movements. They are completely synchronized but all dancers are turning, stretching, and jumping. 4. Each dancer is wearing a white outfit and doing similar movements. 5. Lastly, this interest is the idea of personalized costumes.
