The Levels of
Biological
Organization
1. Cell - It is the
basic unit of life
Examples: red blood
cell, fat cells,
neurons, plant cell,
animal cell
2
2. Tissues - A group of
associated, similarly
structured cells that
perform specialized
functions.
Ex. Muscle tissue,
connective tissue
3
3. Organs – a group
of tissues that
carries a particular
function.
Ex. Heart, liver,
stomach
4
4. Organ Systems - A
group of organs that
cooperate in to carry out a
particular function for the
organism
Example:Respiratory
system, circulatory system ,
Nervous System
5
5. Organism – An
individual living
thing.
Example:Human,
dog, cat, plants
6
6. Population Composed of all
organisms of one type
occupying a particular

populations occupying a
given area at a given time

along with its physical
environment.
Examples: Rivers, lakes,
oceans
