HOW TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE ASSESSMENT In the New Normal Learning Modalities to be used this school year. It is vital strategies for the assessment of learning that may work best for teachers, learners, and even for parents. Since ASSESSMENT is an ongoing process of identifying, gathering, organizing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information about what learners know and can do. (DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015, p.1 ). Teachers need to be creative and flexible in assessing student learning, while still adhering to the principles of quality assessment practice. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT Learners answering worthwhile task when answering modules/activity sheets. Teachers taking count/noting down learners’ progress during consultation. May watch learners online for assigned performance task. May receive pictures of learners'’ daily activities as a form of learning progress. SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT Quarterly assessment may be provided into written works like open-book exam which must complete independently at home using any resources they have access to, and returned within specific period of time. Performance task must be designed to provide multistep opportunities for learners to apply what they are learning at home. Assessment and feedback may be given via text message, email or management system (e.g. Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams). Teachers should have a realistic expectations about what can be accomplished remotely and use their professional judgement to assess the consequences of their plan. It is important to find a good balance between what is effective and what is feasible to do remotely. Parents / guardians are vital in this process, so it is important for them to understand what formative and summative assessments are and how these are used to benefit their children. Working with and through parents will strengthen the necessary school-home partnership for ensuring that learning opportunities are in place even at home.
