Work exposure March 4, 2019 I, Janel M. Orticio, a Grade 12 student of Pio Duran National High School is assigned to undergo work exposure at Municipal Department of Social Welfare and Development (MSWD), municipality of Pioduran. Way back February 29, 2019, Friday, our respective teachers conducted an orientation about the work exposure we are about to explore, starting March 4-8, 2019. Today is our first day of work exposure. All of the Grade 12 students under General Academic Strand (GAS) are gathered first in our school to check the attendance in order to assists us to our respectable department. Mrs. Carla Marie Sariola and Mr. John Nuada patiently joined us to walk. We arrived around 8:00 in the morning at the office of MSWD. Every entity are given a number to maintain the fairness in assisting them on what they need, and we got 21st on the line. We've waited for almost 3 hours due to the lots of entities that Mrs. Mercedes Napa need to accommodate. After the long wait, Mrs. Sariola and Mr. Nuada are on the ground to endorse us to Mrs. Mercedes Napa. After the discussion between them, our teachers left us and let the care of MSWD handle us. Minutes after, curiosity and excitement triggered us, as we entered the office of Mrs. Mercedes Napa. She oriented us, she discussed the history of MSWD, the MSWD is under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that the government, specifically the Code 1991 ordain to focus on the needs of one locality. She also discussed the duty and responsibilities of employees or the department itself, including the programs, such as the Child Welfare that focuses on the survival, participation, protection, and development - education and physical and emotional and/or cognitive aspect, Women's Welfare Program that relies upon to solo parent and Kalipi program, Senior Citizen, social pensioners under the age of 60 years old and above but there are basis in order to be one of the beneficiaries, and PWD'S or Persons with disabilities which are assisted by educational assistance, medical, transportation, burial, and emergency assistance. She also let us introduce ourselves together with our personal information such that address, parent's name, age, and status. The orientation goes well because she discusses with so much sincerity and a little bit of joyous talk that makes us feel comfortable. She also plans the onward tasks that we are about to do later, for tomorrow and the day after it. Mrs. Mercedes Napa and together with our second emotion or agreement, we decided to visit and do an observation in the National Child Development Center, with our vision to know the style or methodology of the teacher and also to socialize with pre-kindergarten students. On Tuesday, we are going to visit the Day Care Center of La Medalla, for us to make a comparison of the two teaching styles and classroom management. On Wednesday, we are planning to visit the SPED class in Pioduran West Central School. On Thursday, we are tasks to attend the meeting in Pabahay. Hopeful to settle with that kind of plan. But before we undergo, Mrs. Mercedes Napa or the other employee needs to make a letter of permission for us to conduct an observation. She also asked if what time we are going to check out - on what time we are going to take our lunch. And we decided to take our lunch at 11:30 and out at 4:00 in the afternoon. For me, she's very nice and approachable, and with this I know our work exposure will be exciting and there's a lot to explore around the municipality of Pioduran and this will taught us experiences, lessons and self-experimentation. After the orientation, she guides us to the National Child Development Center to discussed some of the things that we should do later. Then, she let us take our lunch and reminds us to go back at 1:00 and sign in to the logbook. I arrived at exactly 12:30, and we decided to sign in to the logbook and settled ourselves inside the National Child Development Center. I observed that the facilities are good and complete for the needs of every pupils, they have their cabinet for the things of their pupils and a set of mini stage plus the small sound system that was suitable to the pupils. The pre-kindergarten pupils arrived one by one. They produced so much noise but they're noise is inclined with intelligence. I salute Mr. Arnel M. Rosco, National Child Development Teacher, because he teaches with patience with his 42 pre-kindergarten 2 pupils. He discussed his lessons through the use of whiteboard and give a piece of bond paper to his pupils to do their part of learning. He let us help him to entertained and teach his pupils and it makes my heart melts as they are bubbly smiling towards us, calling us Ate and Kuya. The whole session with group of pupils marks my lips with a smile for the whole 3 hours. Mr. Arnel Rosco is a teacher with passion, first impression I have taught about him because his willingness shines towards each of his pupils. The pupils may be too hard to ask to behave but I am grateful that children like them are disciplined because they interact with courteous behavior and they happily joining our picture taking. The pupils are really approachable to us. After the fun session with kids, we go back to the MSWD office. Mrs. Mercedes Napa let us do our documentation and reflection in our first day of work exposure for the remaining time. When time ticks at 4:00, we decided to fill out the log out corner of the paper so that we can end our work exposure and take a rest and ready ourselves for tomor Work Exposure March 5, 2019 I arrived at 7:30 in the Municipal Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO). We've waited for our co-students to arrive in order to compose ourselves for our next exposure. When the attendance is completed, two of the employees assist and drive us to the department, half of us ride on the tricycle and the others are on the cart owned by the municipality of Pioduran. We arrived at La Medalla Day Care Service around 8:30. Mrs. Editha R. Binvenuto, the Child Development Worker welcomed us and introduced to her pupils. The discussion is already started before we arrived, the first tasks I've observed to her teaching methods and strategies is the disciplinary action - she tasks them to put their hands on their knee so that they can listen to her discussion well. She also uses educational materials (books and things) to demonstrate clearly the lessons to further understand the ideas being taught about the living and nonliving things. Through the use of drawings, the pupils are attached to her to listen. The pupils are actively participating onto her. After the snack time of the children, Mrs. Editha Binvenuto continue her lesson by storytelling, then she asked questions about the story and the pupils actively answered her with disciplined. The story is covered with moral lessons, and it's a good factor to develop the children's attitude. Afterwards, it's her pupils do the learning process, she let them draw and color their artwork. Then, do the board work, and it's an active approach to measure the learning adaptation of her pupils. She checked every works of the pupils, and give a mark, a star mark to congratulate their utmost participation. Her kind of giving awards like this, really mean to the children as they are approaching us with wide smile, it symbolizes a good and positive results. After that Mrs. Editha Binvenuto give an assignment to her pupils. A sincere salute to Mrs. Editha Binvenuto because she manages to handle 60 Day Care Children, but the number of upcoming graduates is only 45, due to the age of them. Around 11:00, the two employees and Mr. Mark, the head of Day Care Services accompanied us to go back to MSWDO. The remaining time was consumed to do our documentation and reflection about our assessment to the department. We go back to the MSWDO at exactly 12:30. 1:00, we go back to the National Child Development Center, the department that we observed yesterday afternoon. Mrs. starts her discussion with prayer, followed by a song and dance exercises that pupils actively participated. She continue the lessons yesterday that Mr. Arnel Rosco discussed. She also let us help the children to do their work. The discussion goes well while we are doing a mini boat made of papers that they are about to use tomorrow for their activity. She also practiced their pupils to do their graduation rights. The class was ended by a prayer. 3 hours being with approachable children must be treasured. My journey here at the National Child Development Center is enjoyable and it makes me feel a child again, it gives me an idea on how the Day Care Teacher does, such as to patiently teach their children. The remaining time was used to formulate our observations. Work Exposure March 6, 2019 We've visited the SPED class or the Special Education Resource Room at the Pioduran West Central School (PWCS) supervised by Mrs. Ma. Isabel Y. Del Mundo. She accommodates us with her warm welcomed and assisted us to sit comfortably and observed to her 20 special pupils. Overall Mrs. Del Mundo have 35 special pupils but sadly the others are absent. The PWCS has the regular special pupils of 52 from Grade 1-4. The program is named as the Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN's). The class of Mrs. Del Mundo is composed of individuals which has the Difficulty in seeing (Visually impaired), which has the two classifications, regular blind and multiple disabilities with visual impairment, Difficulty in Remembering and Concentrating (Intellectually Disabled), which has levels such as Level I, Level II, Transition program, and Down syndrome, and Difficulty in Hearing (Hearing Impaired). I admire Mrs. Del Mundo for having a long patience considering that she handles different PWD's with different behavior. Different disabilities need to be accommodated so that they can learn. The special child which has the difficulty in seeing (Visually Impaired) uses the Braille, while special child which has difficulty in hearing (Hearing Impaired) uses the sign language to clearly understand the discussions. The special children are easy to discipline to behaved. They are also actively participating in the discussions. Although there's one special child which has multiple disabilities with visual impairment that is suffering from tantrums that's why her behavior can't handle in just a blink of command. She's interacting with us, but sometimes she got the loud shocking voice that made us shivered and nervous, and imaginations are continuously bothering our mind - what if she got mad with us and hurt us not intentionally. Mrs. Del Mundo told her a couple of times to sit down on her proper sit but still she always stands up and later, she will shout out something and laugh. Half of my emotions pity them, and half is invaded by nervousness. The teaching strategies and methods are different from normal classes, Mrs. Del Mundo attached herself with kinds of methodology such as sign languages, braille and personal approaches. When the children are busy eating, we grab the chance to interview Mrs. Del Mundo about her pupils. We ended our observations with the picture taking on them as well as wit Mrs. Del Mundo. In the afternoon, we gather in the office of Mrs. Mercedes Napa and read our observations. I am thankful that she likes our report though she gave an advice to moreover improve our reporting. The next reporting, she wants us to have an eye to eye contact with people that we are reporting and as well as to the people that are watching toward us. She reminded us to review our notes to successfully complete the revisions and have a book to knew new words per day. She also reminded us to expel posting about the SPED class because we may be accused. She wants us to have an observation and documentation for their department to compare the last working exposure students and the present and evaluate if they accommodate each of us well. Indeed, I am grateful and satisfied of their accompany because she let us observe in different facilities of MSWD department. It is a heart-whelming feeling that Mrs. Napa is a little bit sad due to the short period of time of our exposure. But she said that what matters most is the adaptation of learnings, the ideal of being educated and committed to works. Mrs. Mercedes Napa settled our activity for tomorrow, we are tasks to attend the meeting "Housing Resettlement Orientation" at the Pabahay, that will be oriented by Provincial Government of Albay (PGA). Governor of Albay is also attending, to see the progress of Livelihood Project in regard to Housing Project. She also wants us to introduce ourselves for tomorrow's activity, in order to add our social exposure and continue strengthening our disciplined. Hopeful to do our job well to satisfied ourselves' eagerness and the expectations of Mrs. Napa and her Departmen Work Exposure March 7, 2018 When our attendance is complete, we decided to start walking to Pabahay. While we are waiting for the other visitors, Mrs. Mercedes Napa started the talking, she discussed the Programs that tackles the Childs Welfare, such as Child Protection System and Child Safe Guarding where it holds not only children below 18 but also children above 18 that are mentally and physically disabled. She also discussed the Principle of Confidentiality and Housing Profiling such as the CSAP 1, CSAP 2, Anahaw, and Mapping or new settlers. We also gained information that the Pabahay starts when Typhoon Reming devastated their homes. After this, we unite ourselves to prepare snacks to the people attended the meeting and also to our respective employees of MSWDO. When the visitors arrived, we officially started our program at 10:30, our cowork exposure student Justine Repolona lead the prayer, followed by National Anthem lead also by our co-work exposure student Alonica Mae Ojo. The first speaker is the President of CSAP batch 1, then Mrs. Napa do the small talk, followed by the representative of Provincial Human Settlement Office, Engineer Gina Paz. There are 67 Resettlement Sites that they are working out and they are planning to have a program "Home Owners Association". She also reminds the household owners to engage and let their willingness commit to this program. They may be the last resettlement site that they introduced this program, but she said that the batch are not the least but the best and many. The next discussant is Mr. Albert Gutierrez, the representative of Albay Provincial Agriculture Office (APAO), he discussed about the Albay Family Based Program, the program started on 2017, specifying the Gulayan sa Barangay and Gulayan sa Paaralan, which is based from Organic Vegetable Production and/or Vertical Gardening. The chicken that will be given to them are about 3 1/2 months old, if they are given 5 chickens, they will also returned 5 chickens to cycle the production to other entities. Last discussant is Ms. Angel Pamplona, representative of Albay Veterinary Office, she discussed the Responsible Pet Ownership which includes anti-rabies and vaccination. Later, they will conduct this to every household pet owners. Again, the floor is with Engineer Gina Paz, she commands them to list their name on the program they want to assist or have, so that she can work on it very soon. After the long discussion, we take our picture taking for our documentation. The orientation lightens my mind to the challenges that barangay Caratagan are experiencing. This orientation makes me an informational-oriented student. In the afternoon, Mrs. Mercedes Napa told us that we can't go to Lawinon because it's too far. We felt sad because it will be our last memorable day in work exposure, but half way we understand her decision because she's only into our welfare. The whole afternoon session, we prepare our report to Mrs. Napa, and, we comply our requirements about their department, we are assisted by Mrs. Millamina, one of the employees of MSWDO. It is our 4th day and we gathered so much learnings and social exposure that will surely bring factual sword to my near future journey.
