Growing up as a kid who had diverse interests – embracing the realms of IT, the beauty of mathematics, the intricacies of biology, the wonders of cosmos, the nuances of social science, and the tapestry of history – and figuring out which would work best and propel me to a bright future, I had to choose two interests to go further in my higher education because I knew that I would not be able to follow all of them at the same time. So, I decided to pursue two majors, Computer Science and Psychology, due to my enormous desire to understand how the brain processes information, makes decisions, stores memories, and influences human behavior, thereby addressing societal issues, such as education, public health, or criminal justice. "Liberal Arts Education" is a fancy term that I got to know about for the first time at IBRAT CAMP (a camp where only four hundred high school seniors out of seven thousand were brought to the gorgeous resort to cater to the Uzbek youngsters the necessary advice, and knowledge and research skills to get into the world's top universities). Along with the adventure of choosing the right college to continue my higher education at camp, I came to conclude that Liberal Arts Education at Colby is the best shot to pursue my lifelong aspirations because it encourages Interdisciplinary Studies, allowing me to integrate my diverse interests that range from technologies to humanities, thereby providing me with a well-rounded education. Although I wish I could have visited the campus and engaged with the current students, it remained impossible for me to do so due to long-distance concerns. I kept going on my way to get an overall picture of life, academics, and education at Colby College. The only way was to connect with them ONLINE, searching for them on LinkedIn, Reddit, and Instagram. Finally, I ended up scheduling meetings with Sardor and Atakan from the class of 2026. As one of my longstanding goals has been to immerse myself in foreign cultures and gain insights from people of diverse backgrounds (thanks to Davis-connects), It was a fascinating discovery for me when I got to know about the academic term known as "Jan Plan," which I came across on Ryan Nakajima's YouTube video, a member of the Class of 2022, sharing his day at Colby College. Colby's January Plan makes that one of my aspirations a reality, as it allows us to study abroad during this unique academic term. Therefore, the prospect of participating in the Jan Plan and hands-on experience in international education aligns perfectly with my passion for exploring different cultures and broadening my perspective, further reinforcing my desire to become a part of the vibrant and globally-minded community at Colby College.
