UNIT 6 – AFTER LISTENING
Exercise E
4. more consumption of vegetables and reduced intake of fat 
Japanese people grow taller and expand life expectancy
This is a different story in America where its citizens rely more on
consumption of cheese, chicken, red meat and greasy food (thức ăn
nhiều dầu mỡ) such as fast food due to busy lifestyle that prevent
workers from preparing home-cooked meals  excessive intake of
calories and higher risk of serious illnesses like obesity and heartrelated (cardiovascular) problems
5. These days I have been more self-aware of eating healthily to build
up better dietary regimes, compared to the previous generations of my
grandparents who lacked regular access to educational programs about
how to lead healthy lifestyle through eating habits.
Foods these days have been processed with many toxins and
preservatives, which is vastly different from the past when my
grandparents mostly consumed locally-produced farming products
without the use of pesticides that can harm people’s health like the se
days.
LESSON TASK
1. may not absorb more nutritious contents like proteins and healthy
fat from meat-based products
Vegetarian diet, despite being high in fiber, lack other nutrients, so in
this way the lack of balance in this kind of diet fails to provide sufficient
energy for one to function well and easily push them to the state of
being lethargic
Fill in the blanks with suitable words
There are a variety of reasons why becoming a vegetarian is beneficial.
 Firstly, science has proven that vegetarians have lower risks of developing several
chronic illnesses such as heart diseases, diabetes, some forms of cancer and obesity.
This is because a healthy vegetarian diet is typically low in fat and high in fiber.
 Secondly, eating vegetables properly gives us adequate nutrients to support our
bodies. For example, raw spinach is a great source of Vitamins A, K, E as well as
calcium. That’s why instead of eating many kinds of food to get these vitamins, we
only need a bowl of spinach.
 Thirdly, meat-based products are mixed/ added/ filled with chemicals at all stages
of production, processing and distribution in the supply chain. Due to higher market
demands for meat-based products, not only for domestic consumption but also for
international exports, animals tend to be fed with weight gain compounds/
supplement to be more readily for slaughtering. Because of this unethical practice,
sources of meat and fish are contaminated, thereby posing a safety threat/ hazard
to humans’ health.
Performance art = dance
Underprivileged people / underdeveloped region (country)
It’s very complex with the chiles
Cooking/ cookery class (n) lớp học nấu ăn
Serve A with B (ăn kèm A với B)
E.g., Vietnamese noodles should be served with limes and different
kinds of veggies to enhance their flavours.
A classic/traditional/ long-established dance
ExerciseE

Be a healthy person = to lead a healthy lifestyle/ live a healthy life = be
in good shape/ health conditions
Be happy about something = derive the sense of fulfillment/ pleasure
from something = enjoy something to the fullest
A healthy person is usually in good shape and maintains a healthy diet.
Thanks to (nhờ vào) those factors, they have less chance of suffering
from illness to derive pleasure from activities of their interest and enjoy
life to the fullest. And if they don’t need to waste money on medical
treatment, they may use that fund for travels to exotic places or
participation in humanitarian programs instead, from which they can
derive the sense of fulfillment.
Healthy people tend to be full of beans (= be energetic). Once they are
fully energized, they may gain more motivation to devote themselves
to work and improve work productivity
The healthier people get, the more committed they are to maintaining
their dietary regimes. In other words, they seriously consider healthy
food choices to keep them in shape and excellent fitness, which is
linked to more interest in cuisine.
Have commitment to something

One of the reasons why fast food has been widely used is the
widespread forms of advertising which targets the consumption of such
unhealthy products at children. Because of being enticed by advertising
tricks, children often find fast food images appealing, let alone that the
taste of fast food stimulates the appetite. We need to have/ It is
necessary to introduce many educational programs themed on
nutrition to convince parents to boycott fast foods that are increasingly
marketed in current society.
Vì bị dụ (be enticed by) bởi các chiêu trò quảng cáo (advertising tricks),
trẻ con thường cảm thấy hình ảnh về thức ăn nhanh thu hút, chưa kể
đến hương vị của chúng kích thích sự thèm ăn (stimualate the
appetite). Cần có nhiều chương trình giáo dục dinh dưỡng (educational
programs themed on nutrition) để thuyết phục bố mẹ tẩy chay

hiện nay.
