Online, Classroom, and Virtual New Driver Programs
Course completion
Passing grade
• In case of non-completion, refunds (or partial refunds) will be
available for up to one year.
• To receive a Course Completion Certificate, you must have full
course attendance, at least 80% on your final exam and at least
75% on your in-vehicle sessions.
• Program components not completed within two years from the
date of registration will be forfeited.
• The online classroom portion of your driver training must be
completed within 60 days of registration or an extension fee
of $50 + GST will apply.
Cancellations, refunds, and exchanges
Students who have taken:
• Full program cancellations will be subject to a $50 + GST
administration fee.
• Partial program completions or cancellations will be prorated
for a refund.
• Students who switch between classroom/virtual and online
programs must start the lessons/modules from the beginning.
• Payments made by credit card will be refunded back to the
original credit card; all other forms of payment will be refunded
by cheque. It may take up to three weeks for cheques to be
processed and mailed to the payor.
In-vehicle lessons
• Booking times for in-vehicle lessons vary depending on the
season and location; please contact Driver Education for
current availability at 1.833.374.8733.
• For programs which include in-vehicle lessons, students must
complete all of the classroom/virtual and online content
before the in-vehicle lessons can start.
• In-vehicle lessons can take four to six weeks or longer to
complete, depending on program availability.
• Recommended in-vehicle scheduling is one to two sessions
per week.
• AMA Driver Education reserves the right to cancel any
classroom or in-vehicle session should there be a possible
risk to the safety of students, instructors, or the public.
• You have two opportunities to rewrite a failed exam.
Rescheduling fee
• A minimum 24-hour notice must be given to the student’s invehicle instructor if a lesson needs to be rebooked, otherwise
there will be a $50 + GST rescheduling fee.

Demerit Reduction Defensive Driver Program
Cancellation, refunds, and rescheduling
• The Demerit Reduction Defensive Driver Program is a
government program and is non-refundable. The classroom
Demerit Reduction Defensive Driver Program does qualify
for a refund based on our cancellations, refunds, and
exchanges policy.
• A minimum 24-hour notice is required to avoid a $50 + GST
cancellation fee for any changes or missed sessions.
• In case of non-completion, refunds will be available for
up to one year and subject to a $50+GST non-refundable
administration fee.
• Programs will be unavailable for completion after two years.
Program and certification conditions
• To receive a Course Completion Certificate, you must have full
attendance and at least 80% on your final exam.
• You have one opportunity to rewrite a failed exam.
• This program may only be taken once every two years for
demerit reduction.
• Your Course Completion Certificate can be presented to an
Alberta Registry Agent to reduce your driving demerits.
