Distracted drivers are the top cause of car accidents. A
distracted driver is a motorist that diverts his or her
attention from the road, usually to talk on a cell phone,
send a text message or eat food.

• You are allowed to use hands-free wireless communications
devices with an earpiece, lapel button or Bluetooth.
• You can view GPS display screens as long as they are built
into your vehicle’s dashboard or securely mounted on the
dashboard.
• Other actions such as eating, drinking, smoking, and
reaching for objects.
* They are not part of Ontario’s distracted driving law.
However, you can still be charged with careless or dangerous
driving.

2. Speeding
Many drivers ignore the speed limit and drive over the limit.
Speed kills and traveling above the speed limit is an easy
way to cause a car accident. The faster you drive, the slower
your reaction time will be if you need to prevent an auto
accident.
