"The Italians call it 'Agromafia' and it's estimated to be a $16-billion-per-year enterprise.
One result: Much of the olive oil we import isn't as pure as it seems….
"'Olive oil fraud has gone on for the better part of four millennia,' [60 Minutes producer
Guy] Campanile says. 'The difference now is that the food supply chain is so vast, so
global, and so lucrative that it's easy for the bad guys to either introduce adulterated
olive oils or mix in lower quality olive oils with extra-virgin olive oil.'"
Some of these Mafia-tampered olive oils can pose real danger. For example, 60 Minutes
reported that the scammers dilute real olive oil with much cheaper seed oils. So if you, a
family member, or a guest are allergic to seed oil and unknowingly consume it, the harm
could be serious.
Mafia Tampering Is Not the Only Problem
In addition to Mafia tampering, another serious problem reported by 60 Minutes is
improper storage.
On the surface, this may not sound like much of a problem. But remember that olive oil
is a perishable food. Its delicate flavor and nutrients can be seriously degraded by heat,
light, time, and exposure to oxygen. In the hands of shippers who don't care or are just
out to make a fast buck, olive oil can be exposed to these "natural enemies" everywhere
along its lengthy journey from the farm to your table. Indeed, as 60 Minutes explained,
"by the time this heavenly liquid reaches American shores, much of it has lost its luster."
The bottom line? 60 Minutes asked journalist and olive oil expert Tom Mueller about the
impact of all these factors. Mr. Mueller estimated that "75 to 80 percent of the oil sold in
the US does not meet the legal grades for extra-virgin oil."

I have to get this off my chest...
Even if it pisses Ian off.
Here’s the story…
A few years ago, when I had a big email list (around 320,000 people), I ran into the problem
of our emails always going to the "promotions tab" in Google.
Basically 3 out of every 5 emails I wrote went to promotions.
Which is not good.

Cause the revenue on those emails would always be 30-40% lower than ones that hit the
primary inbox.
So we were losing like $5000 or more per email when we hit the promotions folder.

So Brian grabbed his legal concealed pistol out of the truck and told him to STOP.
Despite Brian’s verbal commands to back off, the attacker rushed toward him, metal pipe
above his head ready to swing.
Brian was forced to shoot in self-defense.

I will always be a big fan of sending personality driven emails to a list.
Why?
Cause they've made me a lot of money over the years (in multiple niches).
However...
I will say that personality-driven emails are NOT for everyone.
They do have some "downsides".
And I want to share a few of those downsides with you.
Starting with...
They're not as easy to write as the short 100 word click-driver emails
The classic short emails (that have no personality in them) are super easy to write.
You can bang one out in 5-10 minutes.
That's not the case with personality driven emails.
Personality-driven emails (like the ones I write to my list) will take a little longer.
I'd say most of mine take about 30 minutes to write.
So when you compare that to the short, click-drivers they do take more thought and
more time to write.
So that's one of the downsides...
And along with that, another downside is that...
You need to be willing to be vulnerable and share stories of your life
The best emails I've ever written are usually ones where I share stories of things I've
struggled with.

When I first started this email list back in 2018, my biggest struggle was coming up with
new things to write about each day.

The goal: I added this hook at the last minute because I used it in the launch and it did
really well. This hook is where you simply send an email from someone that is NOT you.
Some examples I’ve seen used before are an email from your husband or wife, your kid,
your dog, your cat, your customer service head, your warehouse manager, your
assistant (basically anyone but you will work for this). Make sure you change the “from
name” on the email to whoever it is that’s sending it (this will get you more opens since

Right now I live at the Austin Animal Shelter.
They have too many dogs at the shelter so I'm in the "overflow" room where I have to be in a
crate all day.
