10 October 2023 The Management Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Dear Sir/Madam, Letter of Appreciation for the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Bursary I am Ng Jun Wei Aloysius, 22 years of age. I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a diploma in clean energy. Currently, I have switched up my education to be in the social sciences. Currently a Year 1 (Political Science, Psychology, Sociology) programme with the intention of majoring in Political Science. My family and I are truly appreciative of the support given to us by your donor fund. In July 2023, my father, a paramedic for Ambulance Medical Services Pte Ltd., passed away peacefully after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. My father was not the perfect man, but he tried his best to support the family. With his loss, our family’s income was slashed, leaving my mother alone to attempt to support the education of three children. I did my part by working on any days I could as a grab cyclist. Upon application of this financial aid, I was moved to find that this fund was there to help. This seriously changed the financial situation for me and my family. Now, I need to not work as much, allowing myself time to study and focus on my education. My mother was deeply relieved that I did not need to sacrifice a lot of energy to study and sustain myself. This fund truly saved my family from falling further. Currently, I am most active in two CCAs: SMU SoundFoundry for my musical interest as a bass player and SMU Apolitical Society for my interest in current affairs and international politics. Being in my first term of university, I hope to run for student leadership in SoundFoundry to further pursue my interest in music while picking up skills useful in the workplace. This award has truly allowed me to think about other activities that I initially did not have time to do. In the future, I hope to be exposed to more events such as career fairs and political engagements with civil servants, which have allowed me to properly explore my different options for taking up a second major. All this excitement surrounding my future actions in school would not have happened without this fund. My motivation and focused effort on making my university education holistic and memorable will be important to me, and I will thank this fund for making it possible. In the future, I wish to serve the nation in the capacity of a government civil servant. Currently, I’m exploring the different agencies to intern at, but I hope that my future will be in that general direction. I will give back to the wider community, especially to the pancreatic cancer foundation, in honour of my father. Once again, my family and I, the Ng family, would like to thank the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple for the financial support during this tough period of our lives. Yours faithfully, Ng Jun Wei Aloysius SMU School of Social Sciences & College of Integrative Studies (SOSS/CIS) August 2023 Singapore Management University
