Laboratory (20%)
• Labs start the week of September 16
– “Lab 1 Worksheet” (D2L quiz) is due before the lab
• You REQUIRE a 2019-2020 lab manual
– Make sure you read the labs before you arrive
• You REQUIRE a lab coat and a scientific
calculator
• The specific schedule of laboratory
assignments/quizzes is posted in the Lab area on

Required Course Components
• In order to use BIOL 241 as a prerequisite, you
must earn a C- or better (>60%)
– A D or D+ will give you credit for the course, but you
won’t be able to register for any course that requires
241 as a prerequisite
• In addition:
– You must write and pass (>50%) the Lab Exam
– You must pass (>50%) the Laboratory component of
the course
– The combined average of your Lecture Midterm and
Final Exams must be >50%

How Top Hat works:
• In class, we will ask review/practice questions and
you will answer them
– You can answer through the Top Hat app, by texting the
answer, or through the Top Hat website
• We will then review the answer distribution and
discuss the responses
• Screenshots of the questions will be posted on the
D2L site for you to use as a study resource
• This is a great way to check on our understanding of
the material as we work through each class

Cheating:
• Receiving/giving information during exam or for an assignment
Plagiarism:
• Submitting or presenting work as if it were the student’s own
work when it is not. Any ideas or materials taken from another
source written, electronic, or oral must be fully and formally
acknowledged.
• You may cooperate with others in doing experiments and
discussing course materials, but all assignments MUST be in
your own words

Penalties
The Department of Biological Sciences has a zero tolerance
policy for misconduct
All instances of suspected cheating, plagiarism and other
misconduct are reported to the Department Head
Penalties for misconduct:
• Range from failing grade on assignment, or in course,
placement on academic probation, to expulsion from
University
• Letter of offence attached to official transcript
