Maintenance instructions
1.1.
Visual inspection
Exterior inspection of the container and of the fitting (general state, corrosion damages, mechanical
damage, legibility of the labelling. Visual inspection of the plastic parts for changes such as crack
formation, colouration etc.). Integrity of the sealing, remove the old sealing. Any containers and
valves exhibiting damage that negatively influences the compressive strength must be taken out of
service.
1.2. Container
1.2.1. Open the container.
Clamp fire extinguisher in suitable device.
Attention: For safety reasons, always begin by loosening the union nut of the fitting (approx. 1/3 of
the thread length). They have pressure relief slits that enable any residual pressure in the container
to escape.
Ensure pressure relief slits are not covered (visual inspection). Carefully loosen union nut and
move the fitting at the carrying handle until the residual pressure has escaped.
Screw hose off from the fitting and completely remove fitting, take out and clean.
1.2.2. Fully empty the extinguishing agent container. Check foam cartridges for reusability, dispose of
extinguishing fluid. Rinse container out with water.
1.2.3. Carry out a container interior inspection.
During the container interior inspection, the inner state of the container is examined. Special
attention must be paid to corrosion and the sound condition of the interior coating. Any containers
for extinguishing agent that are found to be questionable in terms of safety must be taken out of
service.
1.2.4. In accordance with section 16 of the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health, an interior
inspection must be carried out every 5 years. This inspection can be carried out by a competent
person.
Restriction: When it comes to charging devices (this is the case), once the deadline has expired
this inspection only needs to be carried out if the fire extinguishers need to be opened,
extinguishing agent taken out and refilled.
This is the case at the latest after 6 years.
The steps are hereby taken as outlined in section 1.2.3.
In order to examine the sound condition of the interior coating, the insulation resistance must also be
measured. The container is hereby filled completely with water and a coating testing device (e.g. order
no.: 000 150) is connected. The clamp of the measurement line is attached to the thread ring of the
container for extinguishing agent and the sensor dipped into the liquid. Press the button. If the green
LED lights up and the red LED does not, the coating is OK. Observe: DIN VDE 0701-1 and VDE 0413.
Attention: The container edge must be dry.
The strength test, every 10 years, does not need to be carried out if no defects have been
established during the interior inspection.
1.2.5. Replaced damaged labels with the respective adhesive label.
1.2.6. The sieve is taken off the riser pipe, rinsed with water and checked for contaminants and integrity.
The riser pipe must be free of contaminants and be intact.
1.3.
CO2 cartridge
Screw the steel cylinder out of the fitting by turning it to the lift
Check for:
 corrosion damages (CO2 cartridges with rusted areas and scratches in the surface are to be
taken out of service)
 filling quantity, the filling quantity and max. permissible negative tolerance can be found in the
table “Technical specifications”.
If the tolerance is exceeded, the CO2 cartridge must be replaced.
A refilling of the CO2 cartridge is no longer permissible!

1.4.
Fitting
Take the bursting disc out of the hose attachment of the fitting. Since the bursting disc needs to be
replaced with every maintenance, it can also be damaged during this procedure.
Pull off safety clip and examine. Check the fitting for mechanical damage, thread damage, ensure
the striker pin can be easily moved, strength of the button, intact striking tip, free pressure relief
slits of the union nut, integrity of the rubber ring under the union nut (replace in the event of
damage), function and condition of the carrying handle.


Screw out the riser pipe and check for free passage.
Check the exhaust pipe for tight fit and integrity of the hose piece.
Defective parts must be replaced!
Proceed as follows:
In the event of defective fitting parts, carry out the disassembly as follows.
Clamp the fitting on the carrying handle with the cylinder support facing upwards carefully into a
vice.






Screw out the exhaust pipe on the squeezed end using flat pliers turning to the left.
Screw out the cylinder support with an open-end wrench SW 32.
Press down the button and screw out the striker pin with a pipe socket wrench SW 9 turning
to the left.
Remove button and pressure spring.
Using a puncture mandrel, hammer out the bolt for the movable fixing of the carrying handle.
Separate the fitting body from the carrying handle.
Take out the union nut.
Assembly is carried out in reverse order.
After inspecting the fitting, the safety clip is to be mounted back into the fitting.
1.5.
Hose with pistol
Check the hose for tears, breaks and deformation. The integrations must be secured tightly and
may not exhibit any corrosion or damages. Check locking pistol for tears, breaks and strong
discoloration, and check pressure springs for corrosion. Screw off extinguishing agent nozzle, rinse
with clear water, check for cleanliness and damage.
Re-attach extinguishing agent nozzle, hereby check for tight fit.
The pistol must be easy to operate and close tightly.
Blow through hose with pistol. Hereby ensure free passage with the operated pistol and that the
pistol closes completely. Check integrity of the O-ring.
Attention:
If defects are established to the pistol and/or to the rubber parts, replace the entire hose. This
refers particularly to tears, breaks, strong discoloration, hardening or deformation.
We recommend carrying out a hydrostatic pressure test and leak test of the hose lines after
8 years.
1.7.
Extinguishing agent inspection
WA 9 F-500 is a non-frost proof water filling.
The extinguishing agent is composed of 8.82 l water (drinking water quality) and 2 foam cartridges
F-500. The water is renewed on the occasion of every maintenance.
No preservative tables may be used, antifouling additive KV 970 (9 ml) is used here
The foam cartridges can continue to be used if it is still within the deployment period (expiry date
printed on the film) and the fill quantity (see calibration mark on the cartridge) is given.
Attention: The interior inspection is (month/year and auditor number) to be verified on the CO2
cartridge, the riser pipe or the adhesive tape.
