Interview Prep Print out your resume and go through it with a fine-tooth comb You want to read every single job, every single bullet point, and refresh your memory about what you did within these positions. As you read through, make sure you refresh your memory about the day-to-day in each role. In addition to reading the bullet points, you want to go back through and think about your clients, you want to think to yourself ‘what was my client-base?’. For previous roles, remember to the best of your recollection – smaller details don’t matter as much when discussing previous roles. When it comes to your current roles, make sure you are detailed and accurate with your answers. Re-read every bullet point and think to yourself “If I was asked a question about this, what are the 3-5 sentences I would say You want to go through reasons for change as well. What candidates do is pop right into their reasons for change. Instead, discuss a bit about what you’ve learned and what skills you gained, then discuss the reason for change. The reason should always be positive and based on professional growth. – Such as: I learned X, I was exposed to X, then at this juncture I knew I wanted to take my skills and experience to pursue a career in real estate. Your reasons should have a business reason and due to progression. I want to take my skills and experience and progress into my next role. Questions to ask – I like to put them in 3 categories: The firm: 1. Do your research on the firm first and then say “I see [FIRM] gets involved in A,B,C – what else can you tell me about the company”? 2. What are some of the strengths of the firm? 3. How would you describe the environment/culture? The interviewers: 1. I took a look at your linked in profile, if you don’t mind me asking anything else you can add about yourself? 2. What brought you to the [FIRM]? 3. How would you feel it sets itself aside from the other firms you have worked with in the past? 4. How did you find the transition into the [FIRM]? The Position: 1. I took a look at the job spec, what else could you tell me about the role? 2. How is the team structured? 3. how would you describe the day to day of the position? 4. How does this role interface with other divisions within the company 5. if I was fortunate the join the team what would be expected of me my first 3 months? 6 months? And what could I do to POTENTIALLY add value? 6. What are some of the strengths you think an individual should possesses to be successful with the firm? And the team?
