As of January 2023 - this resume template is one of my most successful - using this format with the right keywords for my profession has given me a very high ATS optimization rate with the highest amount of responses from hiring managers for interviews. Resumes are one of the best examples of function over form. A very dry and boring resume will do much better than an overcomplicated and fancy one- keep things basic and sterile - especially if submitting through an ATS. Daniel (Dan from HR) Space — Full Name Contact Info (Email Add/Phone/) LinkedIn Hyperlink PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Company Name Location Title Dates Brief description of company (use familiarity bias where possible if the company is not a household name) Use full formula WHAT + HOW = IMPACT in at least 3 bullets for all the others, try to have at least two of the three. For bullets that have significant business, start with IMPACT. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Your first bullet should be an anchor that succinctly describes your role, impact and scope. (HRBP responsible for driving the people and talent strategies for the Marketing department, through close collaboration with CMO and marketing leads to build a high performing organization, based on an open culture of feedback, investment in marketing technology skills and driving optimal leadership behaviors and org design) The most important bullets should be on top. If you are a People Manager, this should be first (Managed a team of 6 IT professionals and one project manager) Ensure you use data in at least 2 bullets. (Contextual data is used to show size like budget, revenue, audience, team size, etc. Impact data is used to show changes like increase or decrease in a given metric.) Ensure you are using the same verb tense throughout the resume (either gerund or present) Be specific and show your achievements, not job descriptions. IMPACT first is a good way to change things up and command attention, especially for achievements that have a significant tie-in to business goals. Use dynamic and action driven verbs (Owned, Directed, Led, Increased, Created) and avoid low impact verbs (Assisted, Helped, Called, Coordinated) Since this is your current position, the bullets should be the most impressive and show strategic growth and impact Avoid dead bullets that just take up space (i.e., “Assisted Managers as requested) Company Name Location Title Dates Brief description of company ● Your responsibility bullet should be shorter. ● As you get into older roles, the length should generally be shorter unless you spent significant time there, or it’s a company that will activate familiarity bias ● You are now in PAST TENSE ● Try to show growth in similar responsibilities (i.e., if you currently manage a team of 10, talk about how you managed a team of 6 in an older role) ● ● ● Take the opportunity to show different skills and experiences even if the roles are similar Use the skill to showcase the achievement: (Built automated Workday reports to view impactful HR metrics, made recommendations to business leaders) Make sure at least one bullet point has a very strong achievement - basically the thing you are proudest of Company Name Location Title Dates Brief description of company (use familiarity bias where possible if the company is not a household name) ● Attention is much shorter on the second page, the experiences listed here should be even shorter and should just be quick impressive hits ● Talk about soft-skills in the bullets - things like presentations, influence, public speaking ● Never make creative or styled resumes. Most ATS’ can’t read graphics, colors or text boxes. ● Going up to 4 entries is usually fine, beyond that use the Previous Experience if you are referring to 10+ years of experience. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE (Optional) ● If you’ve worked at many companies, or are afraid of ageism, this is a good section to put bullets that are 12+ years old. If you are a Sr Director of Marketing, most companies won’t be that invested in learning that you were a marketing intern 15 years ago, so a whole section isn’t required. ● Format is Job Title at Company (years optional) ● Only put roles that are related to your career growth and trajectory, ie – first customer service, retail, bartender, waiter jobs don’t need to be included. CONSULTANCY/FREELANCE ● For any roles in a consultancy or freelance, even if presently doing it’s better at the end, and indicate it’s seasonal. Each bullet should be as succinct as possible: ○ Provided marketing consultancy and strategic social media growth plan to small med device company. ○ Created web-traffic analysis report showing high/low times of engagement for ecommerce site specializing in French dessert spoons. SKILLS ● Technical programs and systems - Engineers and Tech people should list out programming languages ● HRIS, Financial, Sales, Project Management ● Soft Skills (Social Media Marketing, Presentation, Leadership Development) ● Foreign Languages EDUCATION College Name – Degree Completed with any Minors Certification Information and Date —-
