ASSURE MODEL LESSON PLAN

Topic: Introduction to Poetry

Age Range: 14-15 years old
Time: 60 minutes
A. ANALYZE LEARNERS
General Characteristics: The learners are grade 9 students and typically around 14-15 years old. They
may be interested in literature and have some knowledge prior poetry. They are likely to have varying
levels of proficiency in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and critical thinking. Active learners
who enjoy participating in discussions, activities, and performance tasks. Technology-savvy and
comfortable using digital media, therefore they are active in audio and creative PowerPoint
presentation.
Entry Characteristics: The learners may have some prior knowledge of poetry, such as basic literary
terms and forms of poetry. However, they need to support in understanding more complex literary
devices and analyzing poetry in depth.
Learning Styles: The learners may have different learning styles, including visual, auditory, and
kinesthetic. Some may prefer reading and writing tasks. The teacher can incorporate a variety of
activities and teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
B. STATE OBJECTIVES
By the end of 60-minute period, the grade 9 students with at least 79% accuracy able to:
a. define poetry and identify the basic elements,
b. appreciate the beauty and power of language through studying poetry,
c. perform poetry orally, using appropriate tone, pace, and gestures.
C. SELECT MEDIA, MATERIALS AND METHODS
Media: PowerPoint and Audio, Visual Aids
Materials: projector, speaker, visual aids
Values Integration: creativity, self-expression, critical thinking, and communication skills
Subject Integration: Language Art
Methods:
 The teacher will begin the lesson with interactive introduction. The lesson begins with
an introduction by playing a song. The teacher will introduce the activity called “find
my twin” to the class. Learners must listen to the song prepared by the teacher and
take down the words end with the same sound.
 Play audio recording of song to the class.
 Teacher presents the PowerPoint contains the concept of poetry and its
characteristics.
 Encourage learners to participate.
D. UTILIZE MEDIA, MATERIALS AND METHODS
Preview the Materials: The teacher should have fully covered and researched on the topic before
introducing it to the class. The teacher should be aware of poetry and its characteristics and able to
answer any question posed by the learners related to the topic.
Prepare the Materials: The teacher should have fully ensured that the media and materials are ready
to present before the beginning of the lesson.
Environmental Preparation: The teacher should check the classroom in order for safety and to ensure
that it is proper for teaching and learning process. Learners sit according to their class arrangement,
facing the board.
Prepared the Learner: Learning objectives will be presented to students at the start of the lesson.
E. REQUIRE LEARNER PARTICIPATION
Induction Set: The teacher displays the poster in the board that contain images that are related to
poetry and its types.
Presentation Stage: Learners will actively participate in this stage. They will explore the lesson,
analyze the learning, and make the input interactive participation, read the handouts, look at the
posters in the board, read the texts. The teacher will provide them the handouts, paste the posters in
the board, and facilitate the text that they will going to read.
Practice Stage: Learners are given 10 minutes to compose a poem with the use of their chosen form
or style of poetry.
Production Stage: In this stage, learners will present to the class the poem they composed. They will
read it with the use of tone and facial expressions.
Skills to Practice: How to use tone and facial expressions right in presenting poem orally.
F. EVALUATION AND REVISE
Learner Evaluation:
The following areas are evaluated:
 Learner’s responses
 The completion of activities and tasks
Assignment: The learners are tasked to search and choose a poem from a published poet.
Instructions: Analyze the poem by answering the following questions:
 What is the subject of the poem?
 What is the tone or mood of the poem?
 What literary devices are used in the poem (such as metaphor, simile, personification,
alliteration, etc.)?
 What is the overall message or theme of the poem?
Closure: The teacher emphasizes on what they have learn in the session using KWL strategy.
Evaluation of Method and Media: Learner’s discipline and obedience during the class and activities
are evaluated for future reference.
Revision: The teacher and the learners reflect on the lesson to enhance both teaching and academic
performance for the future lesson.
