V. Actual Applications of DSP in Room Equalization. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has made significant development in the field of audio, video, communications, and control systems. As multimedia has become prevalent, the digital signal processing (DSP) of sound has transitioned from its earlier focus on bandwidth-limited speech to today's application on providing a high-quality audio coding, digital generation and manipulation of music signals [21]. In the recent years, DSP has successfully made a huge shift in audio industry triggering the transitional phase of analog to digital audio devices. Some companies in the professional audio market, like Sony, Samsung Electronics, Panasonic, uses chips made by a handful of digital signal processing (DSP) manufacturers to add advanced processing capabilities to their audio systems and equipment [24]. Some of the manufactured devices/products that uses DSP are digital mixers, digital processors, digital karaoke effects, amplifiers, etc [22]. Given the benefits and its integration into some of the modern audio devices, DSP evidently plays a crucial role in enhancing people's everyday convenience, particularly in audio listening and streaming. In relation with room equalization, DSP is notably employed to enhance the consumer or user experience in various environments. The following are some of the applications of DSP in different room setup: 1. Home Theatre or Stereo systems: DSP technology is generally used to calibrate and optimize the audio performance of home theater systems by compensating for room acoustics and providing a more immersive movie-watching experience. For instance, when added to an amplifier or receiver, parameters might be manipulated such as adding delay to make sure sound bounces the room [25]. 2. Movie Theatre/Cinema: Filmmakers and audio professionals have transitioned from analog signal processing (ASP) to digital signal processing (DSP) on creating sophisticated audio mixes. DSP offered better sound production which help the audience to immerse to the film. 3. Recording Studio: DSP plays a crucial role in audio console mixer in the recording studio. In contrast to traditional mixers, which employ circuit-based technique to correct signal current, DSP mixers utilizes digital chips and computer software to digitize the signal and implement corrections. [22]. 4. Conference Room: DSPs are responsible for managing audio inputs and outputs in a conference system, processing all audio signals to provide participants with clear and intelligible conversation during the conference. [46]. Aside from the mentioned applications, DSP can also be applied in room equalization for malls, bars, sports complex, stadiums, and even in restaurants [24]. In addition, DSP is also useful not only for the convenience of the listeners, but also for the efficient response of smart electronic devices. For instance, DSP is observed having an increase utilization for IoT applications, such as Smart Homes, where there is a growing demand for data transmission through sound. DSP is particularly useful as it performs sound classification and analysis for speech recognition and speaker identification applications, thereby enhancing the reliability and efficiency of data transfer to the smart electronic devices. Furthermore, digital signal processing plays a vital role in audio technology, particularly in the room equalization. DSP devices such as amplifiers, mixers and processors are commonly used to correct the response of audio devices, thus improving the overall listening experience. Conclusion: [21] M. Kahrs and K.
