SPEECH Back in the day, basketball was played with baskets. Sportsmen would throw the ball into it, and then a person would climb up by a ladder to take the ball out. One of them said to cut the bottom of the basket, and because of this idea, basketball became much more competitive. Everyone loved the idea, except for one person; the one who climbed the ladder, because he/she claims that people like them will lose their jobs. Respected chief guests, judges and my fellow audience, This is the perfect example of the contributions made by artificial intelligence in our era, and the different perceptions we have made about it. The need of AI has drastically grown in the recent years, Because of the importance it has given us in every field of life. Look at healthcare, where we can have early diagnosis of cancer, and can easily organize information. Look at education, where it customizes lessons according to our needs, and aids teachers with automatic grading system. Look at entertainment, where algorithms are used to personalize content based on our interests, just like when our younger siblings watch baby shark, and now we are recommended videos related to it. From weather forecast, to robotics, such as Sofia, a humanoid, and from Virtual assistants, like Siri and Alexa, to navigation, like in GPS, we see AI everywhere. No matter how much we hate it, we still, unwillingly, use artificial intelligence. Even when we use search engines to browse the internet, it is present. Person to person, place to place, department to department, and business to business, jobs may be at threat. But along with the wiping of those positions, there will be new job opportunities. For example, taxi drivers can be replaced with self-driving cars. However, the same drivers can be trained to supervise or manufacture such cars. Same has been witnessed a few decades ago, in the case of steam engines. We cannot deny the significance of ChatGPT, which has improved natural language understanding, faster response times, and the ability to generate more natural-sounding conversations. Yes, AI can be dangerous, might be disastrous. But only when it is in the wrong hands. If this is the case, knives can be dangerous, might be disastrous. Guns can be dangerous, might be disastrous. Nuclear weapons can be dangerous, might be disastrous. But only when those are in the wrong hands. As small as a needle, or as big as a ship, it can be harmful to us, if they are with the wrong person. Every rose has its thorns. But, if we remove those thorns, we can use it for our own advantage. Definitely, change can be uncomfortable, and uncertainty can bother us. Even during the time, when the first iPhone was made by apple, cell phone companies were given a hard time. But, now, this change has become our daily routine, and in the same way, it will also benefit us and become a part of our life. If us, humans, will welcome this amazing change, and join hands with AI to co-exist in peace and harmony, then it will transform our lives in unpredictable ways, in ways we’ve never even thought of. Our imaginations will not be an imagination anymore, our fantasies will not be a fantasy anymore, our fictions will not be a fiction anymore, and our desires will not be a desire anymore. Because now, it will become a reality. THANK YOU.
