Stephanie Huskin World Lit. Fall 2023 Study Buddy Reflection My study buddy for the semester was Kollman. I really enjoyed getting to know him and work with him. Kollman's favorite work was Landlock X, which he says he appreciated for its creativity, imagery, and exploration of themes. He found the writer's techniques to be engaging and effective, and he was satisfied with the overall reading experience. On the other hand, his least favorite work was Blackass, which he found to be stereotypical and lacking in plot development, which I felt as well. He mentioned that he didn’t enjoy the reading experience and found it to be less engaging than other works we read in class. I also felt this story lacked a sense of storytelling and felt unfinished. Kollman and I both agreed that the theme of belonging was an excellent topic to unpack in these texts. We appreciated the insights we gained from the readings and from our fellow classmates. We both felt that we learned a lot about what it means to belong and how this theme is explored in literature. Kollman was an great study buddy. I found our conversations to be comprehensible and productive. We both found value in these meetings. He seemed appreciative of my thoughts and I his. Although we didn’t get to meet in person as much as I would have liked (thanks to illnesses and mom life), we still kept in communication via email. I learned a lot about Kollman as a person. He aspires to be a commander meteorologist in the Navy NOAA Corps, which I think is so cool. I always loved storm chasers when I was a kid and thought being a metorologist was such an interesting job. He is also currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in operational meteorology with a minor in math. He is passionate about meteorology and is excited to start a career in this field. From what I can tell, Kollman is a very bright and motivated individual. He is also creative and has a passion for music. I was impressed with his academic goals and commitment to his studies. I enjoyed working with Kollman as a study buddy. He was a valuable partner in our discussions, and I learned a lot from him. I am confident that he will be successful in his academic and professional endeavors.
