Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 “We will be having an activity but before that, let us have our warm-up activity first.” (Teacher leads the warm-up session) Drill is Thrill Instruction: Perform the basic skills of basketball in a given station. Here’s how! 1. There will be 4 stations in this activity. (Student follows) 2. Student 1 will inbound the ball and pass it using bounce pass, after inbounding the Student will pass it using a bounce pass to Station 1. 3. Person in Station 1 will pass back the ball and Student 1 will dribble it to Station 2. 4. At Station 2, Student will pass the ball to station 3 by using a chest pass. Station 3 will pass the ball back to the student. 5. After receiving the ball from Station 3, the Student will pass the ball using an overhead pass to Station 4. 6. After passing the ball to Station 4, the Student will run and Station 4 will pass the ball to the student and the student will dribble the ball until reaching the preferred shooting area and then shoot the ball E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 (The Student will perform the given activity) F. Developing Mastery (Leads to formative assessment 3) “What did you observe in your classmates' performance? “ “Was it difficult? “ (There were a variety of skills displayed in the activity.) (Some say yes, some say no) “If you find it challenging, you do not have to worry because our activity will be in connection to our lesson for today. “ “Can anyone tell me what are the skills that were displayed during our activity?” (A student raises his hand) “Yes, Lorgie?” “The basic skills that were present during the activity were Passing, Dribbling, and Shooting sir.” “Very good!” “So first, why do we need to dribble the ball if we are moving in the court?” (A student raises his hand) “Yes Kyla?” “This will allow you to move up and down the court, maneuver past defenders and execute plays.” “That’s correct. Just remember to not use both hands while dribbling because it is a violation called Double Dribble.” (Students will follow) (Teacher will demonstrate dribbling) “What is the importance of learning how to pass a ball?” “Yes, Aila?” (A student raises his hand) “Because you are on the court with four other players from your team at all times sir. Teamwork is also a strategy in this sport. “Excellent!” “Passing is incredibly important to make a play and to score a point.” “In passing, we have 3 types of passes. Does someone have an idea what those are?” (A student raises his hand) “Sir” “Yes Arnelle?” “We have Chest pass, Bounce pass and Overhead pass sir.” “Perfect! Thank you.” “Obviously, Chest pass is being done by passing the ball from the passer’s chest to the receiver’s chest without bouncing.” (Student will follow) (Teacher will demonstrate the pass) “Bounce pass is also thrown from the passer’s chest to the receiver’s chest, but it is bounced in between the two players.” (Studen will follow) (Teacher will demonstrate the pass) “And lastly, an overhead pass is thrown from above the head from a greater distance than a typical chest or bounce pass should be made.” (Student will follow) (Teacher will demonstrate the pass) “And the third skill is Shooting. Why do we need to learn how to shoot?” (A student raises his hand) “Yes Ezer?” “In order to score points, be an effective offensive player and especially, win the game sir.” “Correct answer!” “We need to shoot in order to score and those who have the higher score definitely wins the game.” (Student follows) (Teacher demonstrate shooting skill) “Last skill that you need to learn is the Rebound.” “Does anyone know what rebound is all about?” “Yes Crimson?” “Very accurate, thank you Crimson.” “Both offensive and defensive players can rebound the ball and decide what to do next based on the situation they are in. When in offense, it is called (A student raises his hand) “A rebound occurs when a shot does not go in the net, instead bouncing off the rim or backboards into the hands of the player below sir.” offensive rebound and in defense, it is called defensive rebound.” “So based on the definition, what do you think is the purpose of having a good rebounder in a team?” (A student raises his hand) “Yes, Napili?” “I think sir in order to maintain or gain possession of the ball. “That’s correct! Thank you.” “When in offense, you can maintain possession even when the shots are missed, and when in defense you can gain possession of the ball that leads to turn over giving you a chance for your team to score.” G.
