Department of Chemistry, Payame Noor University, Khoy, Iran, haghnazari92@gmail.com Abstract In order to reduction of lead ions toxicity, formation of a stable complex of 5,5'-dm-2,2'bpy ligand and the toxic ions of lead(II) has been investigated X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis has been used to characterize the structure of the synthesized complex. The analysis confirmed polymeric structure for the synthesized complex. the polymeric structure contains a lead ion which attached to two N atoms of 5,5'-dm-2,2'-bpy ligands and four chlorine atoms, [Pb(5,5'-dm-2,2'-bpy)Cl2]n. Coordination number of lead in the mentioned complex was 6. Due to the π ... π and Cl ... H interactions, the one-dimensional polymer complex spread to two-dimensional network. Crystallographic results showed that the synthesized complex is a one-dimensional coordination polymer. Complex formation stopped the normal activity of toxic lead ions from adverse reactions. Key words: Lead(II), 5,5'-dm-2,2'-bpy ligand, coordination polymer.
