SAFETY CHECK-OUT After correcting the original service problem, perform the following safety check before releasing the set to the customer: Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs, screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage. Check leakage as described below. LEAKAGE TEST The AC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a return to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microamperes.). Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods. 1. A commercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCA WT-540A. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions to use these instruments. 2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245 digital multimeter is suitable for this job. 3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a VOM or battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indication is 0.75 V, so analog meters must have an accurate low-voltage scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are examples of a passive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated digital multimeters that have a 2 V AC range are suitable. Be sure to read this section before repairing the unit. UNLEADED SOLDER Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the leadfree mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead. (Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with the lead free mark due to their particular size) : LEAD FREE MARK Unleaded solder has the following characteristics. • Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher than ordinary solder. Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time. Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to about 350 °C. Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful! • Strong viscosity Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to flow) than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges occur such as on IC pins, etc. • Usable with ordinary solder It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may also be added to ordinary solder. DESTINATION ABBREVIATIONS The following abbreviations for model destinations are used in this service manual. • Abbreviations AEP : European area (Except for UK, Ireland), East European area, CIS area (Moldova) and Middle Eastern area (Israel, Jordan) models AUS : Australian and New Zealand models CND : Canadian and Latin American area (Puerto Rico) models UK : European area (UK, Ireland) model RU : CIS area (Except for Moldova) model MODEL IDENTIFICATION Distinguish by Part No. and destination code on the rear side of the main unit. NOTE OF REPLACING THE ELECTRICAL PARTS ON EACH BOARD FOR REPAIRING Among mounted electrical parts on each board, only parts that are described in the electrical parts list can be replaced for repairing. The parts that are not described in the electrical parts list cannot be replaced with single for repairing. In that case, replace the complete mounted board. Printed wiring board and schematic diagram that have been described on this service manual are for reference. Connect the AC power cord (supplied) to the AC IN jack on the rear of the unit, and then to the wall outlet. NOTE OF REPLACING THE BT BOARD OR THE NFC BOARD When replacing the BT board or the NFC board, be sure to replace the BT board and the NFC board simultaneously. The BT board or the NFC board cannot replace with single. Among the repair parts, the BT board and the NFC board are supplied as one unit. NFC board left side BT board rear side ʭ AC power cord (supplied) ʮ To wall outlet The CHARGE indicator will light up in amber. Charging will be completed in about 4 hours and the indicator will turn off. front side Notes RESETTING THE SYSTEM If the system doesn’t respond and cannot be operated despite the power being on, reset the system using the RESET button. 1 Press RESET on the rear of the unit with a pin or other pointed object. • It may take longer to charge the battery depending on the conditions of use. • Even if you do not intend to use the system for a long time, charge the battery to its full capacity once every six months to maintain its performance. • In an extremely cold or hot environment, charging stops for safety. If charging is taking a long time, this also stops the system from charging. In these conditions, the CHARGE indicator continues to flash quickly in amber, but this is not a malfunction. To resolve these issues, disconnect the AC power cord and connect it again in an operating temperature between 5°C and 35°C (41°F and 95°F). Hint You can operate the system while it is charging. The system will turn off. 2 Press Æ to turn the system back on. Notes • If the system doesn’t turn back on, consult your Sony dealer. • Pairing information is not deleted when you press RESET. 5 GTK-XB60 SECTION 2 DISASSEMBLY • This set can be disassembled in the order shown below. 2-1.
