Description The Multifunction Control Platform (MCP) Rear Serial Termination Assembly is intended to help bridge between the MCP’s space saving Modular 8P8C (referred to as RJ45) connectors and legacy D-Sub miniature 9 position connectors. This is intended for use with the 8 internal serial ports. The MCP Rear Serial Termination assembly provides switch selectable options of passing through the IRIG-B output signal or none, or for the ports 4 and 8, optional +12V 0.5A power. The default position of the switches is in No Connect (NC) position. This assembly will bolt on the rear of the MCP chassis without obstructing access to adjacent ports. Figure 1: MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly - Installed View Kit Contents Read this manual carefully before you unpack or install the MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly. Visually inspect the packaging to ensure that it has not sustained any visible damage during transit. If you find any visible signs of damage, report it immediately to the carrier. Carefully remove the package content and check the listed items: 1. MCP Rear Serial Termination assembly (528-1006LF) [quantity 1]. 2. Cable assemblies: 3. a. 3.0-inch RJ45 flat shielded interconnect cable (977-0563/3) [quantity 4]. b. 2.5-inch RJ45 flat shielded interconnect cable (977-0564/2.5) [quantity 4]. Mounting hardware: a. M4x12 screw [quantity 4]. b. M4 split lock washer [quantity 4]. GE Information 994-0169-1.00-0 9 MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly Installation 1. Ensure that you are sufficiently grounded to prevent any Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to the MCP assembly or other components. 2. Before you proceed, turn off the power to the MCP unit and confirm the unit is de-energized. RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. To prevent an electrical shock, turn off the power to the MCP unit before installing or servicing the unit. 3. The MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly will be installed on the rear of the chassis as shown in the Figure 2 below. Locate the 4 pre-tapped M4 screw holes in the aluminum heatsink on the rear of the MCP chassis. Position the Rear Serial Termination Assembly such that the eight RJ45 connectors are adjacent to the eight built-in serial ports on the MCP chassis. The MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly is to be used with the MCP built-in serial ports and not intended to be used with expansion serial ports. Figure 2: MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly - Rear View 4. Install the MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly using the hardware provided in the kit. Insert the M4 screw and split washer through the mounting holes in the assembly and into the pre-threaded holes in the MCP chassis. Split washer must be used to ensure the assembly does not loosen over time due to vibration. 5. Tighten all four M4 screws to a torque of 20 in-lb [2.26 Nm] using a Philips head screwdriver. Ensure the screw is properly aligned with the threaded hole in the chassis and do not over tightening the M4 screw. Cross-threading or over-torquing will damage the pre-thread holes in the MCP extrusion and damaging the chassis. 6. 10 Connect ports 1 through 4 using the short RJ45 cables. For the INNER ports labeled 1 through 4, connect one end of the shorter (2.5-inch) RJ45 flat cables to the inner built-in serial ports on the MCP. Connect the other end to the inner serial ports on the Rear Serial Termination Assembly. 994-0169-1.00-0 GE Information MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly 7. Connect ports 5 through 8 using the long RJ45 cables. For the OUTER ports labeled 5 through 8, connect one end of the longer (3.0-inch) RJ45 flat cables to the outer built-in serial ports on the MCP. Connect the other end to the outer serial ports on the Rear Serial Termination Assembly. There are two different sets of cables included with this assembly, four 2.5-inch RJ45 cables and four 3.0-inch RJ45 cables. These two sets of cables are not inter-changeable, they differ in length and terminations. Figure 3: MCP Rear Serial Termination Assembly - RJ45 Cables Assignment 8. Set Pin 4 configuration for each serial port as required. Pin 4 on the serial port can be independently configured using the switches adjacent to each port.
