Abdelrahman, 1 My Personality And Its Traits Ahmed Abdelrahman University of Central Arkansas MGMT-3340: Managing People And Work Dr. Alexander Chen February 14, 2022 Abdelrahman, 2 My Personality And Its Traits What Type of Personality Do I have? As humans we are all unique in our own way when it comes to our character, the way we look or the things we like. With all these differences we can still find things that we have in common and one of these things is personality types and the traits we possess. There are studies about personality types and these studies have divided our personalities into 16 different types which are mentioned in Table 1. I have taken the Humanmetric Jung Typology test to find out what type of personality I have, and based on my answers the results were that I have the personality type ESTP which is Extravert, Sensing, Thinking and Perceiving. How Rare Is It To Encounter Someone With A Similar Personality As Mine? As Mentioned in the paragraph above, we as humans share these personality traits with many other people but not necessarily to the same level as they are. Therefore it is possible to meet someone who shares most of or even all of the traits with you. As you can see in Table 1 which was put together by the author Micheal T. Robinson, we can see that the most common personality type is ISFJ and the least common type which is ranked 16th is INFJ. My personality type which is ESTP is around the middle, ranked at 10th place with a percentage of a little above 4. What Traits Do People With ESTP Personality Type Possess? Table 1 : Frequency of personality types Data from https://www.careerplanner.com/MB2/T ypeInPopulation.cfm Each personality type has its own characteristics, but that does not mean that you are always acting in the way that is mentioned about your personality type. For example, if you have an extravert personality type it does not mean that you always act as an extravert, sometimes you act as an introvert to some extent. As an individual who has the ESTP personality type, I’m going to be talking about the characteristics related to ESTP and see how many of them I have and to which degree do I act the way that is said about my personality type. Moreover, I will talk about other characteristics that I have that are not mentioned for this personality type. The most obvious trait for ESTP personality type is being extroverted, and that is true about me. I always like to go out, meet new people and talk to them. However, at times I feel like taking a break from talking to people and just sit in my room for a day or two and avoid people just to take a small break from socializing. In the 16personalities website on the introduction tab, it mentioned that ESTP personalities live a risky lifestyle “They live in the moment and dive into the action.” this means that ESTPs are spontaneous and do not plan ahead, which is very true Abdelrahman, 3 about me because I do not usually follow plans. I just go with the flow and make it work. This is because we are logical and most of the time we like to make decisions on the spot. What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses of Being An ESTP? Different personalities are very proficient in some things and needs to improve in other things, that does not mean a certain personality type is better than the other, it is just how we are so it is natural to find some weaknesses in your personality and that is totally fine because at the end of the day we are humans and humans are not perfect. With that being said, I will be listing the strengths and weaknesses of being an ESTP. I will create a table of strengths and weaknesses and rank them in descending order. Listed in Table 2 are the strengths and weaknesses of ESTPs, but I rearranged them in descending order with direct being my biggest strength while being perceptive as the lowest strength. In terms of weaknesses I placed unstructured at the top while placing impatient at the bottom. To begin with why I ranked these strengths and weaknesses in that way, I will begin with the strength. The reason why Direct was placed at the top is because I always communicate with people what I want and what my intentions are. However, this comes with a drawback because sometimes the words that come out of my mouth might be misunderstood by people or me not elaborating enough, but I'm always happy to clear any doubts. I placed sociable at number two because I do not have any problem with talking to strangers and striking up a conversation. Bold is placed at third position because as mentioned earlier I always communicate what I want. Rational and practical placed at fourth and at fifth originality. I will be honest here, I placed originality that low because I do not always come up with original things. Finally, I have perceptive which is placed last on my strengths list and that is because I rarely notice changes. I do notice bigger changes, not small ones though. On the other hand of the table, I have the weaknesses which are mentioned in the 16personalities website in the strengths and weaknesses tab. The reason why I placed unstructured as my biggest weakness is because I never stick to a schedule and never organize my time, I just do things throughout the day and finish whatever I can get done. As mentioned in the same website mentioned above under the unstructured trait “This may get things done, but it can create social fallout.” I experience this so many times where I just get things done along the way and sometimes problems come up out of the blue. For my last weakness, I placed impatient last because a lot of people have told me before that I’m a very patient person and I rarely have moments when I’m impatient, except when I’m tracking a delivery of something I bought online. What Career Paths Best Suit People With ESTP Personality? Abdelrahman, 4 As people who are extroverted with good social skills, boldness and the fact that we always improvise, the 16personalities website wrote “This social intelligence, combined with Entrepreneurs’ natural boldness and improvisational skill, makes sales, business negotiations, marketing, even acting – any tense, competitive environment – a great fit.” Another career path mentioned in the same paragraph is freelancing. All the jobs mentioned above have something in common, which is lack of restrictions and that is what ETPS like, a job with not so many restrictions. All of the five jobs mentioned suit me, except for marketing. I know I have the communication skills to talk to people, but communicating with people to get to know them is different from communicating with them to sell them a product. Speaking of career paths, there are a few famous people who have the same personality type as me, most of them work as actors. According to personalityclub website the famous people with ESTP personality are Samuel L. Jackson, Donald Trump, Malcolm X, George W. Bush and Mike Tyson. A Brief Summary About ESTPs With everything mentioned above, it is fair to say the ESTPs are somewhat chaotic when it comes to organization, we do not stick to a plan because we have the ability to improvise and fix the problems along the way. As stated in themyersbriggs website, “ESTP personality types are energetic, enthusiastic and easily adaptable, and like to make work fun.” We easily improvise because we are always looking for opportunities and we do not like to work under restrictions, and that is why we are unstructured. As every other personality type, we do have our weak points and mine being the lack of structure and time management. I’m used to functioning that way because I have always adapted to the situation and managed to do the things that needed to be done. The reason why I did not stick to plans from the start is because I knew that things do not go 100% according to plan. So instead of wasting time on planning, I started jumping into the work from the start because even people who stick to plans will have to improvise on things in the middle of their plans.
