12 ways to make the most of your time
while you're at home
Having to stay home for long periods of time can be frustrating. It's easy to feel irritable,
bored, or restless, especially if you're not used to going out for so long. In times like these, it
is important to be productive; Setting tasks, creating a to-do list, and expanding your range of
interests, activities, and knowledge will certainly help soothe your mind and body.
Take note, we tell you the best ways to take advantage of your time from home.
1. Find a new routine
First things first, make sure you have the right mindset. If your usual routine has been
disrupted, it's easy to feel scattered. Find a new routine and stick to it; Try to get up at the
same time every morning, get active first thing in the morning and, if you have a balcony or
terrace, have breakfast outside. Daily routines help keep us focused.
2. Learn something new
You suddenly have all this free time on your hands, so what better way to spend it than doing
something you've always wanted to do, but never found enough time for? Sign up for an
online course, subscribe to a yoga channel or, once and for all, start learning a new
language. If you live with more people, you can practice together.
3. Watch movies or series in a new language
This is especially useful if you are currently learning a new language and want to expand your
vocabulary. There are many foreign language movies available on Netflix, many of which are
filmed in remote locations that will help you continue traveling with your imagination.
4. Keep in touch
Whether through WhatsApp, Skype or with a regular call, it has never been easier to stay
connected with your family and friends from anywhere in the world.
5. Catch up
Now might also be a good time to create or update your Linkedin profile and network with
school friends or former work colleagues. In addition, this network is full of interesting articles
by professional sector, which can help you not lose track of news related to your work.
6. Travel from the couch
Travel writing is wonderful, it has the ability to pick you up and transport you to another time
and place, for as long as you want. Simply pick up an inspiring travel book or a novel set in a
country you've never been to and get lost in its pages.
7. Become a cook
One of the best things about being home? Unlimited access to the kitchen. Explore your
culinary skills with the thousands of recipes that you can find on the internet, and discover all
the healthy and delicious dishes that you can prepare with your own hands.
8. Surround yourself with green
If you have access to outdoor space in your garden, terrace or balcony, try gardening and
turn it into a small outdoor retreat. If you don't have a garden, try growing an avocado tree, for
example. Nothing is more satisfying than planting a seed and watching it grow, although with
care, gardening is addictive.
9. Plan your next adventure
You may not be able to travel right now, but you can definitely plan a trip. Turn on your
computer and investigate the wonders of a country or city where you haven't been yet. Write
down all the things you'll want to do and visit when you're there, and if a different language is
spoken, consider learning a few key phrases beforehand. When the time is right, all you need
to do is book.
10. Exercise
There are many options available to keep your body in shape from home, alone or in
company. If you are not used to exercise routines, you can find apps or online videos with
guided classes for all levels.
11. Disconnect
The digital world can be overwhelming at times, so consider reducing screen time or
unplugging completely for a while. Taking a break from online news and social media can be
very beneficial for our mental health. You'll feel relaxed, relieved, and refreshed in no time,
which brings me to my final point.
12. Relax
While it's good to stay busy when you're home a lot, how often do you get the chance to
completely relax? When you slow down, take the opportunity to brake and get away from your
busy life. Breathe, think, find yourself again.
