Comment about five-day office week
I want to give a comment about the five-day office week and why this system
is outdated and I would prefer working in a model were I am working two
days in the office and three day in a remote/home office. I am a student and
just argue based on the information I get and the experience mainly form my
parents.
In my opinion it is very stressful and exhausting to take the time to drive to
work every day even if I could do the same amount of work at home. There is
the risk of something like a car accident with is not necessarily worth to take
and you are blowing a lot more pollution and CO2 in the environment. At
home you have more time to work and you can have a better focus in
addition you can spend your time and your breaks more individually.
At home you do not have to switch your environment as often as you have to
if you work in an open-plant office, so you can, more likely, individualise or
personalise your work environment and even if you want to get an office
change you probably have the opportunity to take your laptop and go to a
coffee store and work there for some hours.
You have more flexibility with for example your appointments because of the
online-meeting and do not wast your time changing the rooms.
If you spend your time at home, you can also help your family and children
and spend more time with them.
In those two day, where you are in the office, you can use your time efficiently
and have a lot of time for connective-work, social connections and
collaboration. There you can use the information, presentation or knowledge,
which you have prepared at home. If you work efficient in this time your boss
will see this more than just sitting at your desk and working on your on the
hole week, so you even have a better chance to get promoted.
I personally would say that your do not have to see your co-worker in face to
face every day. For me it is enough to see them in video-calls and for
example eat with them two time in the week, which has also a positive effect,
because you avoid gossip going on and the chance, that you can be treated
unfairly, also sinks.
My point of view is also supported by 47% of the workers, who have been
asked, according to a new survey by Morning Consult, so I think that the
employer has to react to this change in society.
All at all not being in the office the hole five days has a lot of benefits, which
for me personally are just a lot more suitable. I also see the small pros for
having one till two office days ans interact with your co-workers, but I just do
not see a single point, why you should be in the office for more days or even
the hole week.
