Activities Ask the children to create symmetrical patterns by positioning counters on a square grid. Introduce a mirror line. Organise the class into pairs. Draw a large 6 x 6 square with a mirror line. One child places a set of counters on one side of the line, then the second child positions the same number of counters symmetrically on the other side. Lower-ability children could use mirrors to check lines of symmetry, particularly diagonal lines. This activity could be done with an OHP grid and the children could mark in the counters or crosses.
