1. Purpose:
This method statement provides comprehensive guidelines for cast-back shaft MEP (plumbing and
electrical) to ensure safety, proper alignment, and durability in a designated parking area.
2. Scope:
This method statement covers the installation of cast-back shaft MEP at the specified location and
quality control.
3. Materials and Equipment:
Concrete Instant or Waste Concrete (min K175)
Reinforcement Bar (Rebar)
Plywood (Scaffolding and Formwork)
Measuring tape
marking paint
hand Trowel
Level
Safety equipment (helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots)
Temporary Barricades and warning signs (if necessary)
4. Installation Procedure:
4.1. Safety Precautions:
Conduct a site-specific safety assessment.
Ensure all workers are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Mark the work area with temporary barricades and warning signs if the shaft area is open.

4.2. Marking and Layout:
Measure and mark the desired locations for the cast-back area using marking paint (offside 100 to
150 mm from the shaft opening). Refer to the approved shop drawing.
4.3. Formwork:
Install scaffolding and shoring formwork. Measure plywood requirements according to pipes and cable
trays. Install it properly, ensuring no gaps between the pipe and the concrete. Refer to the approved
shop drawing.
The electrical shaft creates a 50mm gap from the cable tray for the fire stop. The fire stop will be done
by others.
Make side formwork at slab 150mm height
4.4. Place rebar and concrete:
Place rebar one layer D13-200, ensuring dimension and spacing are correct.
Cast shaft with concrete and compact with vibrator.
Side formwork can be removed after 12 hours.
Bottom formwork can be removed after 7 days.
4.6. Curing:
Allow the concrete to cure as per manufacturer recommendations. Typically, use curing compound.
4.7. Quality Control:
Inspect the installed cast-back concrete to ensure they are level, no defect. Rebar diameter and
spacing are correct.
Check for any cracks or imperfections in the concrete.
4.8. Clean-Up:
Clean all tools and equipment thoroughly.
Remove temporary barricade and warning signs once the installation is complete.
5. Health and Safety:
Continuously follow safety guidelines throughout the installation process.
Provide first aid facilities on-site.

6. Environmental Considerations:
Dispose of any waste materials in accordance with local regulations.
Ensure proper disposal of concrete washout water to prevent environmental contamination.
