At the end of the lesson learners are expected to:
A. recognize the different communicative styles.
B. identify the different communicative style present in a situation.
C. apply the different communicative styles in various ways and situation.
The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo- American literature and other text types serve as means
of enhancing the self; also, how to use processing, assessing, summarizing information, word derivation and
formation strategies, appropriate word order, punctuation marks and interjections to enable him/her to
participate actively in a speech choir.
The learner actively participates in a speech choir through using effective verbal and non-verbal strategies based
on the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, Facial Expressions, Body Movements/ Gestures and Audience

What I know?
Task:
The teacher will ask student-volunteers from the class to read the conversations with different communicative
styles presented on the screen/on the board. The students will then receive additional points for
participating in the activity. The following are the given conversations:

2. CONSULTATIVE- happens in a two-way participation. It is used in a semi-formal situation in which a speaker
needs to provide background information. The listener participates by giving feedback. This is also the most
operational among others.
Language: short responses like, “I see”, and “Ah” may be used.
Titles such as Dr., Ms., Mrs., Mr., Sir, Ma’am, and Madam are likely to be used.
Participants of Communication: student-teacher, patient-doctor
Person Involvement: 2 or more (2 way)
Situation: semi-formal (business and other professional situations)
3. FORMAL- is also considered a straightforward speech.
There is no participation from the listener.
Language: straightforward

Situation: Speeches, Graduation ceremony, A television broadcast, Giving announcements
4. FROZEN- In this style, statements are learned by heart. It is typically prescribed by any law, or it is a ritual
that involves certain fixed statements(verbatim) that are never changed.
Language: highly formal
Person Involvement: 2 or more
Participants of Communication: absolute stranger audience
Situation: during wedding, other religious services, rituals, court proceedings, and other formal ceremonies,
reciting the Pledge of allegiance, National Anthem
5. INTIMATE- Defined as the total absence of social interactions. This style is used by participants who know
each other well or share a very close relationship.
Language: do not need for the articulation of words or additional explanations. They may use words of
endearment such as babe, love, dear, honey, as a sign of intimacy.
Participants of Communication: close friends, siblings, husband and wife, parents and children, and
boyfriend and girlfriend
Person Involvement: two or more
Situations: family gatherings, dates, best friends sharing secrets
