INSTRUCTIONS: Answer question one and any other two questions
QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)
a) Suppose that you are intending to teach the topic on measurement to form one class students. To
be more specific the sub-topic to be covered is circumference of a circle.
i.
Develop two lesson objectives for teaching circumference of a circle.

ii.
Explain systematically the steps you would take the learners through while using a practical
method to teach the concept of circumference of a circle.
(4 marks)
iii.
Discuss three factors the teacher has to put into consideration when choosing the method of
teaching indicated in (ii) above.

b) Describe two considerations when judging a good textbook for teaching secondary school
mathematics
(4 marks)
c) Explain any two limitations of the KCSE mathematics syllabus.
(4 marks)
d) Explain two benefits of micro-teaching to a teacher trainee.
(4 marks)
e) Discuss any five roles of the mathematics laboratory in teaching of mathematics

a) Discuss the challenges faced by teachers of mathematics in secondary schools in Kenya.

b) The influence of mathematics education has been fundamental and widespread that being
numerate is becoming more important than being literate. Discuss educational values of teaching
mathematics to secondary school students.

a) Examine the evolution of secondary school mathematics curriculum since 1963 (10 Marks)
b) Discuss five reasons why mathematics should be taught to all youth of this country.

QUESTION FOUR (20 MARKS)
a) Assessment should enhance learning of mathematics. Explain any four reasons in support of this
argument.
(8 Marks)
b) “Despite its implications, the lecture method can be an effective tool of instruction of
instruction”. Giving relevant examples, explain six measures a teacher can take to ensure
effective utilization of lecture method in teaching of a mathematics lesson.
