Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is a process used
by plants and other organisms to
convert light energy from
the Sun into chemical energy
Plants are Autotrophs

1. Cut out all pieces.
2.
Fold the top leaf along the
dotted line so that the leaf
can open up from the point
(opposite the stem).
3. Glue the top leaf to the
bottom leaf, but ONLY
GLUE the half of the leaf
that is nearest the stem.
The other half of the leaf
will open up to see the
inside of the model.
4. Begin to glue the arrows
using the images on the
last page of this document
as a guide.
Overall equation for the type of
photosynthesis that occurs in plants
Cellular Respiration
• Process
by which cells in living organisms convert
glucose into energy
•
Focuses on a molecule called adenosine
triphosphate (ATP), which is used to power various
cellular functions.
• Occurs
in three main stages:
 Glycolysis
 The Citric Acid Cycle
 Electron Transport Chain.
Cellular Respiration Equation
The process always begins when energy
from light is absorbed by
proteins called Chloroplasts
Chloroplasts contain green pigments
called chlorophyll
Photosynthesis occurs in two
stages:
LightDependent
Reactions
LightIndependent
Reactions
During Light-Dependent
Reactions the plant captures
the energy of light and use it
to make the energy-storage
molecules:
ATP
Adenosine Triphosphate
NADP
H
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate
During the light-independent
reactions the plant use these products
to capture and reduce carbon
dioxide

Photosynthesis is
important because it
provides two main
things:
Food
Oxyge
n
Some of the glucose that plants produce
during photosynthesis is stored in fruits and
roots. This is why we are able to eat
carrots, potatoes, apples, water melons
and all the others
Oxygen that is produced during
photosynthesis is released into the
atmosphere. This oxygen is what we
breathe and we cannot live without it
