Laboratory 01: Install VM OS
Submission Due: End of laboratory class, submit the file on Moodle atleast 10 minutes before
the end of laboratory class.
Total Marks = 10 marks for 10 weeks (DIT and BNet)
= 5 marks for 10 weeks (GDNet and MNet)
Marks will be given only to students who attend and participate during 2 hours laboratory class.
Submission on Moodle is mandatory as an evidence of participation.
Description of the laboratory exercise:
In this lab session, you will install Kali Linux .
Required Hardware and Software:
• NETGEAR USB WLAN Dongle
• Oracle VM VirtualBox with Kali Linux OS iso
Exercise 1: Install Kali Linux in Oracle VM
i.
Open Oracle VM VirtualBox from location below:
Start>All Programs> Oracle VM VirtualBox> Oracle VM VirtualBox

Click on “Machine> New” and type details as shown below for Kali Linux.

Click next for each upcoming windows until you see the window shown below. Click
‘create’ in this window and you will see your virtual operating system is created.

Plug your USB wireless adaptor in your physical computer’s USB port and give it few
minutes to get installed. Then click on ‘USB’ link as shown below to open a USB
configuration window.

Then click on ‘+’ sign shown on right side of the window and click on
‘Manufacturer_NETGEAR NETGEAR WG111v3[0200]’ which will add the Netgear
USB WLAN card as shown below. Click ok to close the window.

Then click on ‘Network’ option. It should open a window as shown below. Do not
change anything for adapter 1. Click on Adapter 2 tab and choose ‘bridge adapter’ where
‘attach to’ label is shown. Choose NETGEAR WG111v3 as your wireless adapter and
click ok.

Double click on Kali2 link. It opens a window and attempt to load the operating system.
However, we have not supplied the image file (.iso or .vdk). It will appear with an option
to choose the .iso file for the operating system.

Choose the kali-linux-2016.2-amd64.iso image location and click start to continue
installation steps.
