5 ChatGPT Prompts For Language Learners Hack language learning with tech Jerry Registre Why I Wrote This I love learning languages and have learned Spanish from zero to fluent. I’m also a techie who loves building and using tech (my brother and I built our first computer as kids because we didn’t have enough money to buy one). I think technologies like ChatGPT, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality will radically improve language learning in the future. This guide is a first step to using ChatGPT for learning and practicing languages. I spent ~1-2 hours per prompt creating, testing, and tweaking to find ideas that I genuinely hope will help you in your quest to learn languages and connect with the world. Sometimes, prompts stop working as ChatGPT changes, or a prompt suddenly stops generating the results it once did. When this happens, start a new thread and retry the prompt. If this doesn’t work after 5 attempts, try tweaking the prompt wording–look at the other prompts in this guide for writing inspiration. What do the language levels you mention mean? The language levels I use in this guide refer to the Common European Framework for language learning which ranges from A1 to C2. Try some sample quizzes to find out your level, or simply alternate between using “beginner”, “intermediate”, and “advanced” alone in the prompts until you find a difficulty that feels right for you. What languages does ChatGPT support? It’s clear from testing that ChatGPT’s performance changes depending on the language. I tested mostly English and Spanish, so I can only really speak for those two. I’ve found ChatGPT mistakes in both English and Spanish in some cases, so always confirm what you learn. Is there any research about ChatGPT for language learning? Research is sparse since ChatGPT is relatively new, but I found a few initial publications here.
